Mods, I'll preface this thread with saying that I think a "detailing" section would be a great section to have. I threw it here since I know most people come here on a regular basis. Feel free to move it where you see fit.

I wanted to do this thread showing the recent detail of a 2002 ZRX. I am co-owner of a small auto and motorcycle detailing company here in central PA. I didn't get the camera out on some of the work as I was just trying to get it done, but it shows a decent progression. I have another ZRX coming shortly for a detail and I'll be sure to take much better detailed progression pics and post another thread.

The bike was in decent shape, but had been sitting for a while in a storage garage, and definitely needed a little attention to bring it back up to snuff.

Here you can see some scratches in the windscreen...

The swingarm and such were a mess due to chain lube being over-applied and never really cleaned off. This took a LOT of work! The problem areas were treated with Adams All Purpose cleaner and a mild degreaser and left to soak. Once the detergent was able to work on the contaminants, a soft brush and toothbrush were used to loosen the dirt. This area took 3 full soak/clean cycles to fully come clean.

The brake calipers and rotors were also soiled pretty heavily with brake dust, so more Adams All Purpose cleaner and the trusty tooth brush were used to bring them back to as new.

Here are some more shots of the windshield scratches.

Here is where I should've taken more pictures, but didn't. The whole bike was then soaked with S100 Cycle Cleaner and left to soak. This was done in the shade so no detergent would dry. Then the bike was gently washed with a lambs-wool mitt and various soft brushes. I take great pride in my attention to detail on the engine cases near the carbs, the exposed framework near the forks, etc. These details will make or break the motorcycles appearance. As I said however, there really aren't any progress pictures of this unfortunately. I will be sure to document these better on my next one.

The previous owner had intermittently used a tail bag which had marred the paint. There was a small portion that had worn through the paint. Obviously, nothing but a full respray of that area would fully resurrect it to as new. I did feel confident that I could polish out most of the paint imperfections and surface scratches. These are always difficult to capture on camera.

After:

I was also able to rectify most of the issues with the fairing and windscreen.

After a thorough drying and blow-off (to get the water out of all the nooks and crannys), the bike was polished, and then a coat of P21S 100% Carnauba wax was applied. Again, no progress pictures, sorry. Here are some final shots of the bike when all was said and done.

Enjoy!

We do have a Detailing section. But I'm leaving this here because it's of the two wheeled persuasion :) Looks great, I am a Kawi fan myself.
