I've had some success in spraying the gum with electrical contact cleaner and scraping it off. The idea is to freeze it first - ice cubes might work too.

Peanutbutter works great for gum

I was thinking peanut butter but thought that was more to do with getting gum in your hair. Plus you'll now have peanut butter stains on the mat.

If you don't use the contact cleaner maybe just putting the mat in the freezer itself would work. Once the gum is frozen enough you could probably just chip it off.

There are a million different ways to do this, as someone mentioned try google.

One method that I have used for a matted in air head in my boss man's tahoe was to take a razor blade and slowly cut/scrape the candy out of the carpet. Then i smeared a dot of super glue at the base of the newly formed "bald spot". Then I scraped some carpet fuzz from under the seat and transplanted it on to the glue...dont mash it down or else you just wind up with a ugly hard spot on the floor. It is not 100% perfect, but enough of an improvement you would not notice it if you were not looking for it.

When I was in military school spraying it with WD40 worked wonders to get gum off everything. Made inspections so much easier.
