My 07 came with an Advent DVD player mounted to the ceiling of the truck. The disc loads into this unit and you simply switch the stock radio to it's aux function. Well, that DVD unit just quit working and I need to replace it before a long trip.
The easy solution would be just go buy another one. Since I wasn't that impressed with that one anyway, I'm thinking of replacing it with another brand. Of course, there could be wiring and mounting differences with that option.
The other option is to find someone who has replaced the factory radio and DVD player with an aftermarket and is willing to sell for a good price. Is this really an option? Is the wiring already there for that or would have to add it?
All suggestions are welcome.

If it were me, I would buy an iPad with a headrest mount for $50. I think DVD players are on the way out....plus you can use the iPad for a ton of other things. the battery lasts a long time but the sound may be tough without a Bluetooth deck. I'm using mine with a cassette adapter and it works fine.....if the kid isn't using her headphones.

Well, if I were driving the truck, I'd probably do something like that. I'm enough of a tech geek that it wouldn't bother me. However, this is my wife's truck and, not to belittle her, but she needs the operation to be as simple as possible while dealing with the kids.

I can certainly understand that. The iPad is nice because you are not dealing with DVDs. Having said that, it isn't quite as easy as just turning on and hitting play.
If you or someone you know has a table saw, you can try this. It worked great and cost me all of $150 for the DVD player and $5 for wood and felt. You would need to buy a tablet style DVD player, and I would recommend Sony. Ours has been used heavily for three years and still going strong. As you can see from the reviews on the link below it is a rock solid player. Don't buy cheap, it will not hold up to your kids and you will end up buying another one. This one will.
