So I've been wanting to upgrade the sound system in my Tundra since I drove off the lot and I think I'm ready to do it soon. Here's a list of things I want to get done.

Sound deadening to the cab of the truck: roof, doors, floor, rear wall. I'm not looking to sound proof it, just reduce the road noise and contain my music more, I don't need everyone listening to my Miley Cyrus songs along with me =P

add oem steering wheel controls

Head UnitAlpine INA-W910
or
Pioneer AVIC-Z130BT
I've had both brand before, but not nav units. Need to play with them before I decide i guess

Subwoofer
I only want one 10" for more bass. I'm not getting in a competition so, I imagine one 10" should do the job.
Kenwood KFC-XW1000F (d=3.38")
or
Alpine SWS-1043D (d=4.3")
or
Alpine SWR-T10 (d=3.25") *I like this one because of the depth, but it IS costly and I don't think I'll use it close to the potential it has.
I need a shallow mount sub for the enclosure dimensions I'm going to have. I believe I'll have between 0.4-0.45 cu in and I'll have to use some poly-fil? I'm going to look into raising the height of the enclosure to get some more volume w/out having to sacrifice available movement of the rear seats and reclining.

Amplifiers
Kenwood KAC-7205 1000 watt 2 channel 170 watt rms/ch
Kenwood KAC-8405 720 watt 4/3/2 channel 60 watt rms/ch
To be honest, this is all I've looked up, and they are inexpensive too. Unless I get some recommendations on some other ones I'll probably be getting these since they'll be able to do what I need them to do.

Crossover
Clarion MCD360 2/3 way crossover

decisions decisions…..

okay, here's where it really goes over my head. Do I want to 86 the dash tweeters and go with 3-way 6.5" speakers in the front and 2-way 6.5" speakers in the rear? or Do I want to go with 2-way 6.5" component/coaxial speaker in front and 2-way 6.5" speakers in the rear? How should I play this?

I was thinking....

Front Speakers 6.5" 2 way component speakers
JL C2-650
Rear speakers 6.5 2-way speakers
JL C2-650X

or

Front speakers 6.5" 3 way speakers
Infinity 639i (2-75 watts rms)

Rear speakers 6.5 2-way speakers
Infinity 629i (2-75 watts rms)

what do ya'll think? what am I missing to make this a good setup?

you wont need to sound deaden your roof. its a pain and not really worth it.

sounds like youve done your hw.

that looks like a nice simple system for your truck.

Just Lose the JL :D
look at some JBL or even Polk speakers. they will sound better than the jl and infinity. those are some equally priced options.....

good luck,

jason

Ok, so deadening the doors, back wall and floor should be sufficient? Do I apply The material to the door and the back of the door panel?

Been looking around and been seeing people using 8" subs....should i consider that? Would I be able to get more bang for my buck and utilize the volume in the enclosure better?

thats the ideal way to do it to eliminate and panel vibration and door vibration. you can look at my album to see the proper way to sound deaden, theres a ton of pix on it.

me personally i like the sound of 10's over 8's. since you have a crewmax there are a ton more options to get creative with a sub setup behind those huge sliding back seats. 8's wont be as deep but they will be punchy especially in a sealed enclosure. the alpine subs are good.

Thats what I was thinking....so, I'm back on board with the single 10. I hope after I do a single, I'm not going to regret it. I don't think I'll need more that that since I don't listen to music that is predominately bass. I guess I may do the new speakers and HU before I put the sub in? I want SQ over noise. But I want to budget my system at below $1500....which speakers for the doors should I use? I know you said polk or jbl, but which line of speakers would provide me with SQ that I won't regret 6 months down the line.

Also, which way should I go? 3-ways up front? or 2-ways with separate tweeters? It is essentially almost the same thing right? would the 2-ways w/tweeters be the better route so that the lows and mids don't drown out the highs?

I would do a component set up front and a coaxial set rear. I personally like cdt audio. very smooth and you can buy all speakers needed for around 200 bucks. Single 10 is usually enough for people but audio is contagious it seems you always want more or better

between the COM 626CR and COM 626CAR
it is a difference in $350 which is the amp. Should I get the cdt amp? or use the money to get one that is more inexpensive? or will the cdt amp be worth getting?

i would just get the speakers if you want to go with cdt. an alpine amp would be better than that cdt rebranded cookie cutter paperweight from china.

hey look at the Sundown SA-8s.. decent price and don't need much space at all ported.. they get down and get loud.. You won't be disappointed..

You said $1500 was your budget..
Alpine INA-W910 -$999.00 was what I saw it for.. may be able to find it a little cheaper
Avic z130bt - $849.99 same here

$500-$650 is all that is left for speakers sub and amps..
sub is 100-200 unless used..
2 sets of speakers is easily 300
2 amps minimum is 300ish unless used or HORRIBLE quality amps..
then you have sub box
speaker wire
deadener
power wire
wiring harness for radio
dash kit
etc

you are pushing into $2k easy with the headunit selections and thats with low level everything else..
I would say of the 2 get the 130 bt I have the 120 it does everything you need.. would give you the extra 150 for the rest of the stuff..

I would say with your budget in mind and Sq goals.. Nix the rear speakers add some of that money towards your front speakers.. A nice set of fronts will eliminate a need for rears all together anyways.. Get a decent 4 channel amp front two channels for the speakers and bridge the rear for the sub.. you will need either a D2 or S4 sub in this case since the amp will probably only support 4 ohm bridged..

you only need one power run - money saved
you only need one amp - money saved

you get the point just an idea to help you meet your goals..

Wow! Awesome advice! You are correct, I did say that my budget is $1500....we'll see how I feel when my tax return is in. Haha.

I just picked up a set of Rock Warrior wheels, so that is pushing my audio project back just a bit. Next think you know I'll be needing new tires soon since these wheels came with tires but used ones at that. Under normal circumstances I would have ignored the speakers, but for how mint they were and the price, I couldn't pass it up.
