I couldn't take the look of the stock street tires anymore, especially on a 4X4. Hunting season is here so it was time for an upgrade.
It's the most I've ever paid for tires, but it's also the first time buying for 18" wheels. I like a tall skinny tire, so I went with the BF Goodrich KM2 285/70R18. It was a close race with the Toyo Open Country M/T in the slightly taller 285/75R18, but after witnessing a blowout ($1,800 in paint damage) followed a couple of months later by a sidewall failure on my brother's truck, I decided to stick with the BFGs. On my old truck, I wore out one set of BFG all-terrains and three sets of the original BFG mudders... never a failure.
After shopping around quite a bit, I found Tire Crawler to be the best price. They were $1,512 to my door. (Local quotes were as high as $1,949!).

They're not here yet, so I'll post pics after I get them mounted. I put a 3"/1" leveling kit on in preparation. I know it's not really the "right" way to bring the truck level and add room for tires, but I haven't decided what permanent suspension modifications I want to make yet. I have a combination of coilovers and a drop bracket lift on my old Tacoma and I love it. So I'll probably do a combination of adjustable King coilovers and Total Chaos upper control arms. All in time...
