I've got a 2009 Access cab TRD sport, and despite having the nice factory stereo with the sub, I 'm a bit lacking in the electronics department. My friends new F150 has more electronics than most computers, yet my Japenese truck doesn't have anything past a CD changer. I still love my Taco, but want to try and integrate some bluetooth into it.

I'm assuming if I'm looking for integrated bluetooth the best route is swapping the head unit? For the most part I'm fine with the audio, signal reception in my truck is worse than most other cars, sound quality is fine. The stock radio won't even do the station & song name text that cars 3-4 years older will do, which is annoying but not critical.

Any suggestions for interfacting with all the stock amp/sub/steering wheel buttons while adding bluetooth mostly for hands free calling?

2007+ has an option to get the Toyota integrated bluetooth with the stock stereo. Works well with my wife's highlander (though not as good as what I have now). I couldn't get it for my 2005 Taco since it doesn't work with the older stereos. But I just replaced my stock radio this month with a new receiver: Sony DSX-S300BTX (got it cyber Monday on sale big). It was cheaper than the Toyota option anyway. Integrated bluetooth, ipod connectors, usb connectors, no CD. I don't use CDs anymore anyway. Now I'm mostly just carrying around a flash drive for my stereo LOL. Or leave it in the truck since they're all so cheap to replace now. The sound quality from both ends (in truck and other end of the call) are excellent! Sound quality out of the stock speakers (I don't have the JBL) are much improved. I did get an external mic for it just to eliminate possibilities of poor sound quality for the caller on the other end. And I like that I can adjust the volume up for both the ringer and mic volume for the other caller. The Toyota bluetooth doesn't adjust as much.
