I thought I would share this with the forum. I purchased parking/reverse sensors from an ebay seller. The package came from China, it was around $14.40 with free shipping. It came with color matched (white), 4 sensors, control module LED display, and drill-bit. Installation was very easy.
I first found an image of sensors installed on a Camry using Google image search.
Removed inside trim from trunk
Found a bushing that was covering a hole to outside of car - removed, pushed wire through (wanted to make sure I was going to be able to get the wires back in from the outside.
Found center of bumper.
Ran a piece of painters tape across the bumper (measured not from the ground; but from fixed points on the car - like tail-lights, bumper guard).
According to the instructions the sensors should be spaced about 1 foot apart, so the first from center I placed these 1 foot of left and 1 foot of right.
The next two I decided to use 15" from the two I marked above.
Measured again just to make sure, placed "X" on painters tape of where to drill.
Made sure there was no interference behind the areas I selected.
Took a deep breath and drilled.
Removed painters tape, cleaned up the holes with a hook razor blade.
Inserted wires and then sensors.
Pulled wires inside.
Found wire that energized reverse lights (tapped into wire)
There is a ground under the center trim for the trunk - used this for ground.
Ran wire from front to back along the floor under trim by the doors.
Connected everything up - tested again. Note - I tested the entire unit before I started.
Cleaned everything up and put trim pieces back.
After making this post - one thing I would have done differently was the spacing of the first two off center. I would have placed these a little closer together - probable about 9" from center.
I priced around getting the sensors installed, one place was $299 and the other was $399. I completed it about an hour, and it cost me less that $15.00.
Another thing I like about these - is they tell you what side the alert is coming from. The factory sensors only tell you if you are getting close to something.
