: Loud Whine during cold start up???

Don't know how to post a video.

After sitting all night, at start up I get a loud whine coming from the front of the motor. It is not the AIP as they are off to the side and I know what they sound like. The noise sounds like an Idler pulley or something??? It is not constant, but comes and goes till the motor warms up.

How do I post a video of it running?

2010 Tundra Crewmax 5.7L 4x4 with 18K miles.

Thats weird. Not sure if I have heard a noise like that before.. Is the serpentine belt torn or off track a bit?

The belt looks fine for 18K miles. It only happens when cold soaked. Yesterday it was around 35 and no noise, but the day before it was down to 2 and when I started it up it was 12. I need to get a longer video of it so I can take to the dealership as it stops making noise once running for a few minutes.

Mine's been doing this for years, it only happens when it is around 0 degrees or colder, pparently it is the belt, caused by the aircondition cutting in, only happens in defrost mode.

Mine does the same exact noise. I never really thought much about it as it has be to very cold out(around 0) to do it. I just figured it was my tundra telling me to pound sand for having to sleep in the cold all night.....

My 2010 does it too for about 30-45 seconds on start-up. Usually only when the temperature is hovering near zero or below. Luckily this winter has been mild so it hasn't angered the neighbors too much!

I have a 2007 with a S/C and it does the same. Toyota suggested I leave it with them overnight and hopefully they can recreate the problem. Apparently a video of it is not sufficient to make it a real problem.

I have no idea what that sound is, but it doesn't sound nearly as bad as the cringing noise of a cold start at -50F.

I know the thread is a little old but mine does it too. Were you ever able to figure it out or did the dealership recreate it? I figured it was the belt being cold or something in the fan skrinking until it got heated up enough to expand back to its original size. I've kind of overlooked it though because it hasn't happened for awhile.

I don't have weather that cold... But when it is "super cold" in my area(30f>)... it's the power steering pump....

My 08 sequoia with the 5.7 has been doing this noise also for a couple years also. I took it in to Toyota and they called me back and told me the belt had small cracks and that should be the cause.
they suggested a belt change but when they told me the cost of them doing the belt job I just went back to pick up my sequoia.
Before it did that noise at cold morning starts (30+ degrees Fahrenheit ) but now it seems to do it also while I'm driving around town at times. Is this covered by the extended warranty?
