Anyone know where to get either stock switches, or are there any aftermarket replacements that will fit? I'm ordering leather and want to add aftermarket heaters while I'm at it.

04 SR5 with cloth... also, are the trucks pre wired?

i bought mine from toyota only about $50. my 2002 was pre wired for the switches just plug them in. bought my heaters from china for about $90 and wired them up and wala, my wife thinks im a genious. a note a caution, this is a big job, getting skins off seats was very difficult not just attached with hog rings. pulled from middle and in back through foam rubber. took me and my father 2 weekends but it was worth it. good luck

Thanks for the response. I'll have to see if I have wires under the blanks. Where did you catch up with the wires at the seats?

all the wires are in the seats assuming you are pre-wired. you will need to remove the console to see if you are pre wired, they are tucked in under there and are not visible by just taking the blanks out.

I'm assuming that the aftermarket heater elements you bought didn't match the stock (pre-wired) harness at the seats... so which harness do I use, and which wires do I splice into at the harness?

Thanks again. Oh, where did you get the switches? Partznet or a stealership..?

Power comes from the seat heater fuse to the seat heater relay, then to the switches. You have two seat heaters per seat, (seat back, and seat bottom). Each pad has two wires, most likely not polarity sensitive (meaning + and - can be hooked up either way and it doesn't matter).

Connect the back element (-) wire to what should be pin 2 on the connector under the seat (ground)
Connect wire 3 from the switch to both (+) wires (1 from each heater element)
Connect wire 5 from the switch to the bottom heater element (-) wire.

It's hard to explain, but the way it basically works is the LOW setting puts the elements in series (both elements "share" the voltage, making both turn on but at a lower temperature.) When in the HIGH setting, the switch puts the elements in parallel (both elements get full 12v, making both of them turn on at full power.)

I have attached the wiring diagram from my truck, yours should be pretty close.8333283332
Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting, that makes sense. Trying to source the switches for a good price now...

dont forget you need a relay as well. can get for about 10 at napa, its not specifically for the seat heaters but its much cheaper and fits exactly. i think its originally for a fuel pump. its located above the emergency brake in a relay box.

And, also found some used OEM heater switches. When I bought similar aftermarket seat-heaters for my '10 Tundra, it had a relay built-in, so I'm assuming that these have the same. If they don't, can you explain where you wired the relay, and any other final notes for the install?

Thanks again man...

the seat heaters you bought on ebay will work fine. you only need the heaters in that box and pigtail from the harness. i cut off the plugs on the harness that connect to the heaters and soldered them to the wires that i told you under seat so i could just plug in the heaters and in case one went bad you didnt have to resolder, just plug new pad in. the relay box is where i told you, you dont need the one in the box nor can you use it if your car is prewired like i assume it is, you must use the one in car or power will never be sent to your heaters. be sure not to forget to disconnect battery before you remove seats, there is airbag stuff connected that you will have to have reset if you forget. good luck to you. i will try to find relay i bought so i can give you part #.

Yeah, I used the same kit & switches in my Gen2 Tundra... My issue is (and it's probably just me) that I prefer the stock look, so I want to use factory switches. Also, those aftermarket switches are not backlit or illuminated... Yes there's an indicator light when activated, but otherwise it's dark. The factory switch lights up with the interior dash lights.

So, I'll definitely need all the info you can provide for wiring them. I tried doing it with factory switches in my Gen2 Tundra, but there were 6 pins on the switch, and none of us could get it to work, so I ended up using that aftermarket rocker

ok, im not sure i understand. first, do we know for sure that you are prewired? if yes there is nothing to wire, just plug in the switches, then solder the pads under the seat, plug in a relay and you are done. im sure you could you use the factory switches if you were not prewired but im not smart enough to be able to wire them from scratch. so i have to asume your tundra was not, correct?

Yeah, sorry.... I haven't checked to see if this one is pre wired yet. I'm waiting until I have everything I need before I take everything out. The Tundra was not pre wired.

Okay man, I'm ready! Got my leather (rear seats are already done, DAMN un-installing & installing factory upholstery is a PIA)... now onto the front seats. I found factory seat-heater switches, removed the console insert, and found that YES, I do have factory harnesses present that plug into the heater-switches. Looking at what I have (below), can you direct me to what I need to do now to use the factory harness for the seat heaters?

I installed (and am working on...) the passenger seat first. I see 2 un-connected harnesses under the seat, they are pictured here:

Here is the main harness leading from under the carpet and to the seat:

Here is what the aftermarket heaters look like; there are 4 elements total (2 bottom, 2 top) and each element has a Red+ / Black- lead going into it:

And here is (what I believe to be...) a relay going to the seat heater elements. There are 2 total relays, each one has 2 "element lead" harnesses going out of it:

THANKS!!!

If I can find factory switches for less than $50, I will try it out. I just installed heaters in my driver seat from TRDSparks. Install was tedious but not too terrible.

I am missing the relay but I am pre-wired for seat heaters in the console. I purchased a relay but have not installed it yet. Currently using the switch that came with the heaters.
