Howdy Tundra owners,
As the title suggests, I own an '06 Tundra AC with a 4.0 V6 and an automatic transmission. Lately (in the last 10,000 miles) I've notice and increasingly loud hum coming from the underside of the truck. It only occurs when the truck is in gear and revving at about 2100 rpm (btw, anyone want to guess how high the engine is revving at 75 mph under normal conditions?) Anyway, today I tried an experiment: I got on the road and drove at about 47-50 mph, engine at 2100 rpm. There was the hum. Then I turned around and drove again, with the engine at 2100 rpm but with the overdrive disengaged. No hum. (i was going slower without the over overdrive, but the engine was revving just the same). This leads me to believe that the issue lies somewhere in the overdrive system. Any thoughts? The truck still drives/shifts accelerates fine, and I'm really hoping this won't take a full teardown of the transmission to diagnose/repair.
