I am having some trouble with my new Tundra's factory bluetooth and wanted to see if anyone is experiencing similar issues.
The basic symptom is that other people cannot hear me at all when I am speaking. I can hear them fine (and I have no issues playing music from my phones over the bluetooth connection).
The problem is intermittent which per Murphy's Law implies that the service department cannot reproduce it.
I have tried the obvious things like resetting the bluetooth system in the truck, re-pairing the phone, etc.
This problem is not related to just my phone (Samsung Galaxy S II), either. It also happened with my wife's phone (Apple iPhone 4) during a recent road trip.
It also does not appear to be related to cellular coverage. If we switch the phone to handset or to use the phone's speakerphone, the person on the other end of the call can hear me immediately (and if I switch back to bluetooth, the problem returns immediately).
I have found that "door knocking" next to the area of the microphone will sometimes fix the problem temporarily. This seems to point to a loose connection of some sort.
As I mentioned, I have asked my service dept. to fix this and they could not reproduce it. Frustratingly, I have explained all of the above to my service dept. manager and all he can offer is:
- maybe the problem is with your phone
- the speakers seem to be working fine (argh!)
- maybe you have poor network coverage
- etc.
Thanks, Shane
