sorry, forum was crashing this morning, i didn't see that my first post went through, ignore this one.

My son turns 14 next mo, in Ar you can get a permit and drive at that age (with adult in car).

I saw a Toy Truck on the side of the road saturday, checked it out, bought it fairly cheap.

1994 Toy Truck
168,000 miles
4x4
4cly (22RE)
Auto Tranny
Single Cab w/Shell
runs and shifts decent, air is cold, 4x4 works

The guy I bought it from was the biggest redneck i've ever met, and I've met a few, growing up here in Arkansas.
Maintenance didn't seem like it was always up to par.

Trying to figure out what all I need to do to the truck. I'm guessing these go w/out saying:

Oil and Filter
Coolant Flush
Auto Tranny Fluid replace??
Transfer case oil/fluid?????
rotate tires - fronts are cupped and steering wobbles on highway
Cabin air filter - is there a cabin air filter?
Air Filter
Plugs.. and wires??
Check Brakes?

Does that sound right? I'm not super mechanical, but I'd like to learn/teach my son all this at home, make him "earn it"...
Recco for a guide on HOW to do all this? Manual? google youtube? Special how-to sections?

What else should I look at us going?

Timing Chain?
Water Pump?
Fuel Pump?
Fuel Filter?
4x4 or lockout service?
rear axle/bearing service?
????????????

What year model wheels will fit on this truck? It appears to have some late-'90's 4runner wheels to me...
Dude said they were really tight fit, that he had to use a rubber mallet to get them on - like the centers weren't quite big enough.
I can just buy tires when the time comes, but it's often cheaper to buy take-off's.
I'm assuming the wheel centers are LARGE on these older wheels due to the manual lockouts.

The front bumper is in perfect shape, but the chrome is well pitted with light rust - is there a treatment for that???

Any other advice you can give?

Thanks!!
Nathan

I remember my 04 toyota pickup loved to eat idler arms.
That was the only issue besides regular mnt you listed.
Also the rear diff breather would get plugged so do a relocation extenstion so it doesn't get filled up with junk & stick causing issues.
No cabin filter.
15" rims were the oem size back then 86-95 (pre tacoma wheels will fit)
Sounds like a great truck for young guy to learn on.

There use to be tons of info & sites back in the day
off-road & yota tech or 4x4wire are good ones.
