Ok I was driving home today from work and the check engine light started flashing. I was not able to get home in time to go to local auto parts store to get the codes read. But the symptom that I am see is extreme shaking of the truck when driving at around 45mph and if I put the truck in neutral it goes away. Stop light, I take off the truck seems to have no power and shakes as it gets up to speed. At idle, it is idling really rough as well.

I know that there is nothing that can be recommended without codes, but is there a way to read codes without a code reader. I know older toyotas you could jump a pin and turn ignition on and off a few time and then count the check engine light flashes.

I have 2000 Tundra 210000 miles. At 209000 full timing belt service, water pump, seals, serpentine belt and idler bearing for serpentine belt were replaced. I also put new shocks on a few weeks ago. And about 4 months ago I put in an new starter. Other then that nothing has changed or been done except routing maintenance.

thanks
ed

Just wondering if anyone can help me with this issue. From reading other posts about similar things, it might sound like a coil pack going bad.

Codes P300 and P308

P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0308 - Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected

With those codes I'd begin by swapping the coil pack of #8 with another & see if the codes remain or move with the relocated #8 pack. Also, check the #8 plug for obvious causes of misfire (cracked ceramic, discolored tip, etc.)

BTW-You'll get a lot more responses if you post this in the 1Gen Tundra forum instead of back here in the weeds where there is not much traffic.
