Searched and no dice

2006 Tundra Double Cab w/o VSC

Wife driving the truck and got ABS light. Used an OBD reader and wasn't able to read ABS fault code. Found the "jumper technique" on the interweb. Shorted pins 4 & 13 and got fault code 22. I believe that fault code is open or short in ABS solenoid for left front wheel.

I took off the front left wheel and inspected the speed sensor. All of the wiring looked intact and when I pulled the sensor from the knuckle everything looked good. The gear attached to the axle shaft looked good too.

I found an abs sensor relay from rock auto for $20. I think that may be the easy fix for the ABS light. Problem is...I don't know where the ABS relay is. I checked the electrical junctions behind the battery and under the dash, but I don't see anything. I looked at the ABS ECU on the right fender well and I don't see any relays that are accessible. What am I missing here? I looked in a download FSM and couldn't find any data there either.

Can anyone help out here???

The ABS SOL (solenoid) Relay is located under the hood, in the relay box as shown in the attachment. Good Luck & hope you can fix the problem.

Well good and bad news.

Good news is...if you ever get an ABS light the OBD II shorting pins 4 & 13 technique works like a charm and is accurate. To confirm my suspicions that it was a solenoid in the actual ABS actuator I took the truck into the dealer. They ran their ABS scanner on the truck through a whole battery of tests and came to the same conclusion that the left front solenoid had failed.

Bad news is...the dealer wants $2100 to replace the actuator. The service writer I dealt with was a moron. He tried telling me I couldn't drive the truck with a faulty ABS actuator and that it was a safety hazard. He also went into a breakdown of how the brake booster distributes the braking power to the different wheels and that the actuator was part of the master cylinder/booster assembly. When I told him the actuator was on the right front fenderwell he wanted to argue with me until the Mechanic walked in and immediately agreed with me. I asked the Mech if it was the left front solenoid and he said, "Yeah, how did you know?" I told the mech about the pin shorting and he thought it was cool.

So I found a salvaged ABS actuator with warranty from an auto recycler from the same exact model of my truck for $175. So hopefully I'll swap that in this weekend and be done with it.
