: Gibson muffler going bad? tundra2000boy 05-27-2012, 07:36 PM I got Gibson Swept side exhaust system on my 2000 tundra 4.7L, a few months ago i notice when i drive through town i can hear my exhaust echoing off the buildings and it doesn't sound right at all, in a way it sounds like a pinging but at idle i don't hear anything only when i'm driving. I bought it about 8 years ago and put on maybe 20-30 thousand miles. I know i'v put the muffler through hell but it's still got it's deep tone when i step on it. could the muffler be toast? I suppose anything is possible but in this case quite unlikely. I've had some el-cheep-o mufflers installed on several of my own vehicles and the worst thing that ever happened to them was that they rusted from the inside out because I took a lot of short trips. Then, when my vehicle wouldn't pass the smog inspection, the mechanic blew up the muffler while working on the vehicle and I had to replace it. With only 20-30K miles on the Gibson it's very unlikely that it's defective already. Even my replacement mufflers coming from the muffler shop have always lasted lots longer than this. cheapskate 05-28-2012, 12:38 PM no, i really don't know how to describe it but it just doesn't sound right but after i'v watched a few youtube videos of Bam mufflers i'm thinking i might pick one of them up...who do i get a hold of to get one?
You get them here. PM Esondidotundra. tundrunk 05-28-2012, 01:33 PM Have you checked for holes in the muffler and piping? Exhaust leaks? They can make horrid noises. It's pretty hard to make a muffler go bad unless you live in the salt where they rot.
BAMuffler is a great muffler, surprisingly solid. Keith doesn't mess around when he makes those. tundra2000boy 05-28-2012, 03:21 PM I keep getting The following users were not found: Esondidotundra SuckersWalk 05-28-2012, 03:48 PM he's hiding from you. why not take your truck to a shop, have them put it up in the air, and listen to the exhaust for leaks/rattles. inspect the muff. if it is shot after all these years, take a quick pic and send it to gibson in exchange for a free replacement under warranty. tundra2000boy 05-28-2012, 04:21 PM Well just a bit ago i took my truck to pick up a few things and it wasn't making any noise at all like before  tundrunk 05-28-2012, 07:12 PM I keep getting The following users were not found: Esondidotundra

I'm surprised you're having a problem, Gibson makes a solid muffler. From your original post it sounded like the louvered core rotted and blew out, but then you posted that there is no more weird sound coming from it.
If you have any other questions regarding anything related to performance on a Tundra, I should be able to help. I'm subscribed to this thread so post up or email me dirtydeedsindustries@gmail.com |
