Dang turkey flew in front of my 2005 Tundra 4x4 Access Cab on the way to work today. Hit right on the Toyota logo on the grill, causing a slight crack.. No problem, or so I thought! Got home and decided to pop the hood to check the oil. Went around to the front and reached under the grill to unlatch, and Uh-Oh the latch is swinging freely.. I reached up and pulled the piece of wire that attached under there. I can look through the grill and see the mechanism that is unhooked when you pop the hood from the cab, but I cant find another lever/cable to get the hood to open. I can pry it up 3-4 inches, but really dont want to break it. I tried searching the archives, but no luck. Any suggestions?? Thanks

This has happened before (the hood - not the turkey) but for the life of me I cannot find the threads. Someone has to know where they are - calling all thread geeks for the hood latch threads!!

Figured it out... about 4 inches to the right of the Toyota emblem, you can reach through the grill and manually move the lever that allows the hood to be opened.. Turns out the wire and latches were all bent up, so now there is a good old fashioned rubber strap being used as the secondary latch!

i hope you plucked that bird and threw it in the deep freeze until fall!

More importantly, did you hit the mashed potatoes and gravy bird as well?

Consider yourself lucky that it hit the grille.
A Ford Explorer hit one in the windshield near here a few weeks back and put the driver in the hospital.
