: Replacing Lower Control Arms - advice on moving steering rack to install rear bolt?

I'm in the process of spraying down the LCA cam sleeves, plates and bolts along with the steering rack mounting nuts/bolts over the next two weeks prior to removal and replacement of the LCAs.

My question is what's required as far as moving the upper tie rod out of the way to install a new bolt into the rear of the LCAs? Do I need to remove the lower tie rod, loosen the entire steering rack assembly and remove the dust boot to provide clearance?

Strange that the Haynes manual states to remove the steering shaft when the tundra repair manual states you should only be loosening/removing the steering rack assembly to install the rear bolt. No real detail is provided in either manual.

Any advice on what it takes to install this bolt would be appreciated.

Also if there are any other nuts/bolts (i.e. lower ball joints, sway bar links, spring/shock mounting bolts) you think I should be spraying with penetrant as well, I'd appreciate the advice as well. Thanks.

That's what the guy at the shop did on mine when the lower bushings had to be replaced....took the bolts out of the rack and moved the boot back. I was still concerned because the surface of that portion of the rack (under the boot) is a sealing surface.....any nicks or dings and I'd expect a nice leak! It was a PITA

I did the same thing, and it worked out just fine. I also ended up replacing my tie rod ends at the same time.
