Oil change on my 2008 5.7L. I've gone through the DIY oil filter thread a few times and I can't find an answer to this question. I'm trying to get the oil filter housing off with the oil filter wrench, but it absolutely won't budge. Normal wrench, breaker bar, impact wrench have all been tried and failed. I could only find the plastic wrench at NAPA, but it's physically starting to warp from the torque I'm putting on it.

I noticed that there's a clip on the housing, but I see no mention of it in the oil change thread (unless I've just totally missed it). Is this what's preventing removal? I can't help but think it is. I can't imagine any human could have torqued this thing down this tight. If it is, does anyone have any advice on how to remove it?

On this page: OIL FILTER. Fits: TOYOTA | Village Toyota Parts (http://www.villagetoyotaparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=338802), it's callout 15679.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I've never had to do anything with the clip you're mentioning.

Now just to be thorough... righty tighty, lefty loosey?

Haha. Yeah, I double-checked that. Stripped the plastic wrench out. It's toast. Replacement metal one won't grab now. I'm going to buy the custom one that grabs the tabs towards the top of the housing. This is ridiculous. Would like to smack the guy in the face that tightened this thing last.

that sucks! this is a big reason why i do my own oil changes. not sure if you have room (i've never been under a 5.7l) but stabbing a screwdriver through one side and out the other then turning the handle has gotten many filters off when I couldn't get it with a strap wrench. good luck.

What are/were you trying to remove with a wrench, breaker bar and impact wrench? Just curious.

5.7 has a cartridge type oil filter rather than a spin on.
