Where is the fuse for the head unit. My head unit has been acting up, so I tried to disconnect the battery to "reset" it. None of the buttons would work, and the screen dispalyed the same thing. am I dreaming or did you switch to an Alpine H/U? If so there is probably a "reset" button on it. That might help.

Your not dreaming. I got an alpine a little while back. It was last summer actually. My stock HU (6 disk in dash) broke, so I got a replacement at the dealer. The replacement, then broke 1 week later. After hearing all of the problems people have had with the 6 disk, I figured I would just switch to aftermarket now so I wouldn't have to deal with another broken factory 6 disk some time out of warranty. You know, just fix the problem before it becomes a problem.

My friend happened to be selling his truck at the same time. He had just got an Alpine HU a few months prior. We both knew he wouldn't be able to get enough extra for the HU in the truck when he sold it to bother keeping it in there. So he sold it to me. So now I have another broken head unit.

I did try the "reset" button on the front already. That didn't help. The screen would display the same thing. It wouldn't refresh, kind of like a frozen computer. None of the buttons worked either. The remote worked though. I figured perhaps the HU needed a reset, much like a computer. Well I disconnected the battery, hooked it back up and now it won't even come out. It is the CDA-7897, which slides in and out, just like those TV head units. My last head unit broke right in the middle of a long drive. This one has one upped it. It broke a whole week before the long trip. :p I wondner why my truck eats head units?!

I just remembered mine did some odd things when the face wasn't seated properly. I removed the face and re-installed it and that cured my problem.

I'm not sure how I would do that. The face plate doesn't actually come off. It motors into the head unit for a "stealth" look when the car is off and motors out when you turn the car on. There isn't actually a removable face.

It is just like those motorized video screen head units, but it doesn't have a video screen.

That's too bad Agent. I have heard that those units that slide in and out have had more problems than most Alpines, but it usually concerns the motor mechanism.

Try calling Alpine customer tech support. They were helpful with me when I needed to buy a particular Alpine adaptor but didn't know exactly which one would work. Maybe they can help you kick start your HU to life.
