Its almost here, I've been cleaning my 870 Wingmaster today and getting my garb together. I'll mainly be hunting on a large ranch just north of Strawn (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&address=&city=Strawn&state=TX). My neighbor, thjrdc, myself and about 20 other hunters will be hunting about a 200 acre mowed sunflower field and some smaller plowed fields. It will be my 3rd season to hunt this ranch, Looks to be a good season this year. hope the weather is good the rest of the week. :tu:

would like to hear of any others that will be out his week and hope you have a successful hunt.

Purchased my license this past weekend! :tu: And now... DAMN IT... it's looking like the "plans" for our annual hunt here, in eastern North Carolina, are gonna' get friggin' "rained-out"... by that damned hurricane... "Francis".

And I REALLY look forward to it! It's sort of... like... the "kick-off"... to the entire season! :D Just my luck!

Funny your name is Greg... my best hunting buddy's name is Greg also! :D :tu:

I cant believe you use that huge gun to shoot those little birds. What has that bird done to you to deserve being shot at....LMAO

I wish I was going dove hunting this year. I used to hunt them all the time around where I live, but they haven't been around the past few years. I think a big snow storm we had in October of '97 scared 'em away.

Man, those things are so fun to shoot. Doves and bobwhite quail are probably the fastest birds I've ever tried to shoot. I've got about a 10% accuracy rating hunting them. I love this time of the year... do you guys hunt pheasant too?

Im going out Wednesday afternoon (opening day in the Central zone). I got in on a lease in Castroville ('bout 20 miles east of San Antonio) with 10 other guys. Taking my son and my boss from work. Sure looking forward to it. Will be a good break from the house remodeling thats going on here right now.

Castroville is a nice little town. Spent part of my Honeymoon there 13 years ago in a little bed and breakfest in the hills. Probably get to shoot at some white wings down there, although a few have been making up to my part of Texas.

Don't feel bad for the birds, I need all the help I can get. Dove get smart real quick. They start to fly in low and fast, darting between trees and brush.
You can knock half the feathers off their tales and they will start to fall, only to pick up speed in a dive and fly off. I have a lot of respect for the little tough SOB's

GregYou did good. :tu:

Me, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn opening day. Spread LOTS of lead but only took home 8. :o Definately no shortage of birds, but boy were they flying HIGH. Think im gonna go back out Sunday afternoon.

Went three weeks ago up in MN with a friend. Got the limit (15) within about two hours or so. Cleaned them up and rapped them in bacon and threw em' on the grill. Doves are probably one of the more tasty birds I've eaten. ;) Wish you didn't have to eat 10 of them to get full... :D

My hunting Bud will fille the meat off the breast, fold it around a slice of jalapeno and a slice of chedder, then wrap in a slice of bacon and grill. Lot of work but its the only way I'll eat'em.
