Good afternoon, Middies :D

In "mid"-October, I'll be taking a road trip with my father to see my bro in Hallam (near Lincoln) Nebraska - in case some of you weren't aware, the town of Hallam was virtually destroyed by a very powerful tornado on May 22nd this year. Here (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/6174) are some pictures of the aftermath. Here's (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26931) and old thread about the tornado. Despite the town's devistation, they (brother and wife) have made a decision to stay in the town and rebuild their house. They're getting a new basement installed currently and we're going up there to do some drywall work. When I get into town, I'll try to remember to take some pictures of what the town looks like now. I'm sure a lot of the town has been cleaned up.

Should I be expecting any incliment weather in or near Nebraska around the middle of October? I have been to NE in July and December - both times it was unusually HOT :rolleyes: I'm hoping for some cool weather though. Take it easy, yall. :tu:

Thats the beauty of the midwest in Fall / Spring ... you can expect anything! The averages say you will have highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's. Add or subtract 30 degrees from that and you should be in the ballpark :devil:

My suggestion is just check the weather the day before you leave ... then you might have a chance of actually knowing what you will run into!

Exactly what Bmlecuy said! I would pack for cold and warm if you are coming for more than a week. Are you driving your truck?

As all us midwesterners know the weather here changes hour by hour. I remember on day it was snowing and the next day it was 79 degrees! This is common during the fall ans spring. This post is to talk about our varied weather. I know at work it is a topic more than once a season.

Yeah, my dad and I are driving my Tundra nonstop from Houston to Nebraska. I made the same trip over Christmas last year, but since I was by myself, I drove the 800+ miles in two days. I didn't want to overstress myself. Anyway, I'll only be there for about 4 days so I'll pack 2 days worth of warm and 2 days worth of cold - hehe...

I was looking at the extended forecast for Omaha - my how the weather varies!!! Partly cloudy, thunderstorms likely, patchy frost, breezy, mostly sunny...haha! Based on this, I suppose I should bring sunscreen, wind-breaker, ear muffs, rain coat, and umbrella. :eek: My hope is that I will see/feel sub-50 degree temperatures at least one of the nights... :tu:

Have fun and be safe! I drove a 97 Camry non-stop from Anchorage, AK to Edmonton Canada. It took us 55 hours non-stop. It was my late pop and my late pop-in-law. I ussually do from here to Phoenix in one shot, 22 hours. If you are in the Bellevue area look me up. Bellevue is just south of Omaha.

Tis the season for change up here in the Northland. Supposed to be around seventy today then rain tonight and the temps dropping to the forty eight range by tomorrow afternoon and more rain. The leaves are changing over quickly into our fall colors and it's time to start the winterizing process on vehicles and homes. Temps can be warm one day and cold the next. Time to have both shorts, short sleeves and long pants, flannel shirts hanging next to each other in the closet. Change is good. :)

I like what I see so far! Highs in the low 60's, Lows in the upper 30's. Here in Houston, our lows right now are in the upper 60's :eek:

It's doubtful we'll come across a freak snow-storm when we get into Nebraska, but just in case, I'll bring a pair of pants. :D I may get a bit "tourist-y" and take a few pictures if the foliage is nice...don't be mad! hehe

It's gonna be a long drive, but we'll manage. Take it easy everyone :tu:

I live near Des Moines, Iowa, but I too have a brother in South Lincoln. He was lucky and didn't get hit by the tornado. I have sympathy for your brother. It can't be fun to rebuild your life after something like that.
I grew up in Nebraska about an hour NW of Lincoln and this time of year is the best. The cool mornings and 60-70 degree days are what heaven is made of. Your blood is thinned if you live in Houston, so it will feel pretty cold to you. Bring a medium weight coat and you will be fine. Leave the shorts at home!
