This is not a post to start a war on whether or not K&N is good or crap. So please leave that discussion out of this thread. I was searching around online and found that K&N finally has a kit available for the 2005 Tacomas with the 2.7L. It's definately not cheap, but maybe an option for some of us looking to get any little HP gain we can from the 2.7.

I agree, if it was around 180 or so I'd consider it. But 300 plus is a bit excessive. Plus it's polished...too bling for me.

Greetings All:
I'm new to the forum, today, so please humor me.
This might shed some light on the significance of air filter flow capabilities. Although I'm impressed with the engineering in the stock 2.7L air filter, the following might interest readers.
On a fluke, I bought an oil embargo Nissan 31City/43Hwy rated king cab pu long before my new Tacoma 2.7L Prerunner. Rated for sales to only a mile high, the Nissan wouldn't pull the mountain pass east of "mile high" Albuturkey even in 3rd gear with any speed. After figuring out it was starved for oxygen in the thin air, being jetted for lower altitudes, I fitted the Nissan with a replacement K&N, not the high-dollar breather but a mere replacement, after which the Nissan would pull the pass in 5th gear with no problem and would actually accelerate up this same pass in 5th. It also was noticeable a little scarier to drive, being obviously a little quicker to accelerate in turns, strong engine/light truck.
Unfortunately, some idiot plowed me from the rear and accordianed me into another vehicle before I could check the mileage after the K&N replacement, but just from performance considerations I've always run K&N air filters in my vehicles since, and with no resulting mechanical problems, and no added expense of repeated stock filter replacements, since the K&N only needs infrequent cleaning, drying, and re-oiling.
No! I do not work for the company, nor do I get money from them. Chuckles. I run a non-profit health research and education organization called VitaleTherapeutics.
If you know a better oil/air filter replacement than K&N, please, by all means, enlighten me.
Good Health!!

P.S. I like the performance of my 2006 with the replacement K&N I ordered for only $42. It was getting more than 22 MPG during the breakin period with the stock air filter (in which one is supposed to vary speeds while disregarding the detrimental effect this has on mileage), so I'm optimistic with the new filter that the mileage will be more than adequate for my purposes, and even may be pushing 30 Hwy.
