I have my choice between a 2006 F150 liarat or a tundra limited 2006. Same price. I don't know much of the tundra and am looking for some help in deciding. Can you help me compare? which route do i go.

I should mention, i tow snowmobiles and boats, i don't do much off road, but where i live it snow's alot. i use my truck like you should use a truck.

Boy, this is a really personal question. Mechanically, if you're towing over 5,000# regularly the F-150 with the 5.4L will tow better. The Tundra is quicker when empty. If you're looking at the F-150 with the 4.6L run (don't walk) away from that deal. The Tundra will run circles around that motor.

I had a problem with the height of the bed rails on the Ford. Very tall and the bed is deep which makes it hard to reach anything in the bed (i'm tall even). I think the Lariat is nicer inside, the Ltd Tundra is just ok in my book. The Tundra (based on lease rates when I was shopping) holds it's value much better so depending on how long you keep the truck that may be important. There was over $100/month difference between the F-150 and Tundra on a 36 month lease. That's a $3600 difference at trade-in time if the residuals are accurate.

yeah i'd say depends on the motor in the 150...i will tell you i have a bad back and my dad has an even worse one(multiple surgeries) and the limited tundra with the leather seats are incredibly comfortable to us and everyone always comments on it. Tundra handles great offroad in my opinion and a 150 will do well either What engine does the 150 have though?

Save your money and wait for the 2007 Tundra w/ the 5.7 liter 32 valve V8. 330HP and 375 pound-feet torque. Towing 10,000+ lbs. All according to the newest Truck Trend magazine.

I personally think the ford interiors are too plain. I love my Ltd. and its way comfortable. I also tow a toyhauler 20' trailer with no probs fully loaded down. Oh and f150 are made in mexico. Ha

I had the same decision last year and went with the 05 DC Limited. I absolutely love my Tundra and never think twice about my decision. Mine was primarily based on comfort as I don't tow much though I do haul a bunch. The Tundra is great on gas mileage (for a V8 p/u) and just offers more refinement than did the Ford. My favorite feature is the back window that goes completely down...with the sunroof open, back window down and all side windows open, it's like a convertible pickup. If you're getting a double-cab, do yourself a favor and go with the Tundra. Also keep in mind about quality. You'll do much better with a Toyota IMO. Good-luck!

Very few. About 4% of F-series were made in Mexico during 2004.

Perhaps you have some better numbers you can provide...Mr...no-statistic? The '05 data hasn't been released by Automotive News (usually comes out the end of May). The 2004 Mexico production was down 50% (meaning 8% of F-series were built in Mexico for 2003). It appears that Dearborn and Louisville is producing the vast majority of the trucks. The only number I've seen was for the first six months of '05 and for all trucks. Ford overall truck production in Mexico was down 10% compared to '04. I make my money by knowing this stuff, so the title fits.

I've never pulled anything too heavy with a 150 personally but i know they will. I do pull a 21' boat, fourwheelers, farm equipment, and tundra does great

Well out of the three domestics yes I would choose the F 150 BUT unless you really need a heavier duty truck I would choose the Tundra. The new F 150s are very nice trucks, nice interior BUT IMO the Tundra interior is more comfortable than the F 150. The seats in the Tundra feel like you sit IN them where the F 150 seats feel like you sit ON them, at least to me anyway. I haven't checked the fuel mileage ratings for the F 150 but I don't think it would get quite as good mileage as the Tundra. I could have got a deal on a F 150 as my wife works at a Ford dealership, but I still chose the Tundra, been driving Toyotas for over 20 years, not going to switch now. Go figure, my wife works for Ford but we BOTH drive Toyotas.:D

And I believe that's why they're cutting Mexico production as much as possible. There are people that will walk away from a truck with a Mexico VIN number. Particularly Ford full-size truck buyers. My Dodge was made in Mexico. Best truck I've ever owned.

the ford i was looking at was made in deerborn. there are stickers on the front window that claims where it was made.

I am looking at the tundra tonight. I am not that impressed with how they look. They look smaller and not as "tough". but i want to give it a try. My main concern is; I buy a truck to use it as a truck. i haul, i tow, i go off road. I just need a "tough" truck with power and guts that will be reliable. In the past my perception is that Ford, Dodge and Chevy make TRUCKS. And that the Toyota was a truck for the yuppie crowd who didn't really use a truck as a truck. Now, i know this isn't the case but that stigma is forcing me to look a the 3 domestic makers. I own a lexus (wife's car) and have owned many toyota's all being fantastic as far as reliability goes. I just don't know if the tundra will hold up to the kind of abuse i put my vehicles thru. Its not uncommon that i tow 3500lbs for 450 miles to find snow.

when i was shopping for a new truck i looked at the Chevy Silverado, F 150 and the Tundra. during the test drives i sat in the back and the wife drove then i drove an the wife sat in the back. IMHO the Tundra was the most comfortable of all three and to me it does not feel like you are driving a truck, well to me anyways.

i dont know if this is going to help or not, but i wanted to chime in.

good luck!:tu:

That still sounds like very light-duty stuff to me. About how I use my 1/2 ton and I have no reason to think the Tundra won't hold-up as well as the others.

It does look a bit smaller than the others, although spec wise it's the same. Of course, the Ford is the exact opposite and was built to LOOK bigger than it really is. Tall sides, deep bed (which makes it tough to load/unload) and huge blue-oval on the tailgate. The Ford tailgate is nice with the hydraulic lifts, but the Tundra tailgat is rather light. Not sure if it will handle a lot of abuse or not.

My only complaint with the Tundra is with the seats. As mentioned above, it doesn't feel like you're driving a truck, which may be good to some, bad to others. The truck sits real high, but the seats are rather low to the floor and it feels more like you're sitting in a car. My prior Silverado was lower to the ground, but the seats were higher. I don't find the Tundra seats as comfortable, but that's really a personal issue.

For the type of work you're talking, the Tundra would work fine. Now if you said you tow 7,000# all over the place, I'd probably be looking at something with more towing grunt.

Also, are you looking at double-cab/super-crew trucks? If so, bed size is a big factor. The Ford comes with a 6.5' or 5.5' bed Ford. The 5.5' bed is very short and not good for those using a truck as a truck IMHO. My 4wheeler wouldn't fit in the back of the Ford 5.5'. And the 6.5' bed trucks are much longer overall. I find the Tundra size to be just right with plenty of room inside, over 6' bed, and overall length still within reason.

For what it is worth, I used to be a huge Ford fan. I was driving an 04 F-250, which I traded in for my 06 Tundra. I had intended, at least mentally an F-150 Lariat 4x4. I thought I owed it to myself to check out Toyota. I fell in love with the Tundra DC, Linited, TRD package. I feel that it out classes the F-150. Much to my surprise, I LOVED the Toyota!! I have been a died in the wool Ford fan!!
