I cannot remember off the top of my head what I have on mine but it is awesome. Clicker works from really far away(In a tree stand once I started my truck(Keyless ignition too) from probably 300 yards away, granted I was up in the air a good 30') If this sounds like something you might be interested in I will check and let you know

I have an auto start on my truck too......came on it when i bought it used. The guy had it installed but I have no idea what it is....sorry :o

But the thing i really don't like about it is when I start my truck in the winter it doesn't start! The truck always takes 1 or 2 or even 3 more cranks then normal to start when it is really cold outside. And the auto start only cranks it 3 times. If it doesn't start it will repeat the whole start up process 3 times. So it will crank it....nothing. Crank it.....nothing. Crank it.....nothing!! Then I have to go outside (in the cold or snow normally) and try to start the truck....which is now flooded! Cranks like an pig and just chokes on the extra fuel in the combustion camber.

Ahhh.....i never use it now when it's cold. Which is when it is most useful
Sorry for the rant

I have installed many Audiovix alarms with no problem(many years ago I did it professionally). I had a remote start on on my last truck for 6 years with no issues. I will be putting a Audiovox in the Tundra soon, with 2-way paging and remote start.

Whichever brand you pick, get one with a paging system. It alerts you when triggered and some even tell you the which body part was touched/breeched. You can buy a compatible alarm now and upgrade to the pager later if needed. When I upgrade I plan on getting one. The price of alarms can vary widely by store, shop around. Go with a shop has certified installers, I've seen bad hack jobs. Stay away from circuit city!

I have an Audiovox as well and it's been great so far :)

It has the remote start and alarm I believe it cost me around $360

it's called "Pursuit Series" Pro-9775T

now this is probably a really stupid question but i was reading something about certain alarms and it was talking about like arming cycles or times or something like that, you can leave an alarm on overnight and it will work without draining your battery right?

I leave mine on everynight with no worries :)

Just try to get one that changes the code everytime you turn it on and off because thieves have a decoded and will steal your code when you arm it but if it changes the code evrytime then they can't disarm your alarm :)

I personally like the Crimeguard systems like the 745i4 at Crutchfield. Crutchfield usually sells an interconnect harness that all you do is pull the main steering car harness apart and install the interconnect harness and the alarm module brain will plug into the interconnect harness. There is minimal wiring for these alarm systems IMHO and Crutchfield sells other harnesses for radar, electric windows, trunk release, etc. Just my 2 cents.

I've got an s6000 clarion with remote start. I put it in because the factory alarm would go off at night for no reason. It has a seperate antenna that allows you to receive a page (I would say 300-500 ft away) when the alarm is triggered. You can preset the alarm to start your car at a certain time ( like 6am each day), and it will run for as long as you set it for. I have had no problems leaving it set for days, battery is fine. I prefer to go to an audio specialist, not Best Buy or Circuit City. A good alarm like mine with remote start will cost you about $400-$450.

Forgot to mention, get a backup alarm. It's hidden in the dash and powers from it's own battery, I think it was a $70 option. It's cheap insurance and it's freakin loud!

you mean the beeping that goes off to warn people whenever heavy duty trucks are backing up?

Cali D

No. It is a seperate alarm siren that goes off with the main alarm. If the main alarm power source is cut off the backup still works.

I forgot to mention that the Audiovox has a nice little feature where it gives a warning(3 loud chirps) if someone touches your truck instead of just going off constantly..This is very nice when a truck or Harley with straight pipes drives buy it will only chirp instead of a full blown alarm....I'm not sure if they all do this but it's a nice feature..

Viper 791 is probably one of the best ones on the market right now. I currently have it in my Tundra and love it. I have the remote start and tilt sensor options. (can't remember what other options I ahve at the moment). oh, yeah, added a sensor to the hood (open a door or the hood and the alarm goes off). The auto door locks work on the door and tailgate (thinking about adding a sensor to the tailgate, but again, not really worried about it)

Thinking of adding power windows, but don't know if I'd ever use them.

Looks good. If you buy this from the web, ask a viper install shop how much they will charge. They may overcharge on the install to offset thier profit. I know you're trying to keep it under $300, so you might want to keep the options basic for now (hood, door sensors, starter disable). You can always add them on later.
Don't forget the back up alarm that says "Attention please, this car is backing up.":D
