My 2003 LandCruiser just hit 30k miles so I called my dealer to ask about what kind of maintenance they recommend, etc.

They said 30k mile service for my LandCruiser is $699 and includes a bunch of bearing repack, etc, etc, etc.

That seems ridiculously high and potentially un-necessary.

What is everyone's thoughts? Bite the bullet and do it or just keep getting the oil changed?

I'd ask for an itemized check list of what they perform before turning them on. I can tell you that to change all the fluids in my 2000 4x4 Tundras driveline was $303 and that didn't include engine oil or filter. This was my first 4x4 and I bought it used in January 2003. I had the work done shortly before my 3yr 36k warranty expired . Peace of mind feels pretty good.

Really not much you can't do yourself when it comes to regular maintenance. No need to pay the dealer - unless you want to and are still under factory warranty. The drive train on these cars is pretty basic, some common sense, and a shop manual, goes along way.
