My reliable 89 has an oil leak from the oil pump area. It is coming from behind a plastic cover over the oil pump.

I can not see behind this cover and was wondering if anyone has experience with the oil pump seal.

The repair manual says i have to remove the front diff and oil pan to remove the oil pickup so i can remove the oil pump and replace the seal

I have been told that i don't have to remove the pump to replace the seal just get to the front of the oil pump and press in another seal

any insight to this oil seal would be great

Thanks

An '89 with a 3.0 V-6,oil coming from behind the timing cover at the bottom-Right? You will have to remove the front covers, the lower pulley, and the timing belt, but you do not have to remove the pump to change the front crank seal.It just pops out,and tap a new one in.Depending on the last time you changed the timing belt, accessory belts, and water pump, now would be the most convenient time and then you can forget about all that stuff for another 60000 miles.
