1990 Toyota V6 4x4 Pickup
So the other day I drove my hour home from work and stopped to get a haircut, 45 min later I get in my truck and it will not start. I cranked on it till the battery went dead and called my wife to come get me. I charged the battery overnight and went back the next day to try again.
Tried to start it and it would not fire. Checked under the hood, air filter was completely packed with sh*t (dirt, dust, pine needles etc). Toyota service neglected to tell me it needed to be replaced on my last oil change 2 weeks ago. Pulled the filter out and the truck started right up with no filter.
So now I put the truck in 1st to head for home, roll on the gas and the engine bogs and dies. Restarted after a bit of cranking and let it warm up for 5 min or so. Go to leave again and same thing, roll on the gas and get this major bog. Now I realize if I roll on slowly (I mean very very slowly) I can get the revs up enough to move. So I limp the 2 miles home and now I am ready to work on it.
It is hard to start, works best if I remove the air filter and put a gas soaked rag in the air box. Once it starts, I remove the gas rag and it idles and purrs like it always has, sounds good. As soon as I give it some gas, it bogs and wants to die. Roll on normal to fast and it bogs, roll on very slow and it will rev. Even at higher RPMs rolling on the gas causes the bog. Keep in mind, there was no build up to this, ran just fine, sat for 45 min, now this.
Here is where I am at so far...
Replaced fuel filter (did not fix it)
Replaced air filter (did not fix it)
Checked AFM "air flow meter" (meters as per book, and the flap moves and springs back as it should)
Checked fuel pump (runs and meters good)
Checked fuel pressure (good pressure at the rail)
What next and then after that?
Injectors?
Fuel pressure regulator?
Throttle position sensor?
Someone help please I am running out of ideas, and I am having a hard time buying a $150 part to see if it works just to go out and buy some other $150 part. I just need it running until I can get my hands on the new Tundra.
Thanks
