This is a discussion thread titled "Costco Arcan 3 ton aluminum floor jack", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Anyone has purchased this jack? Sorry, I don't have the link to it since it seems to be only available at local Costco. If you do, can you provide reviews?
I've purchased a Craftsman 4 ton jack and it leaked oil after 2 weeks.
I've got this jack. I bought it back in the early spring. I have never had a problem with it, even getting the whole front end of my Avalanche off the ground. So far no problems. My one friend also has it. He complains that his handle is a lot more difficult than that to turn to release the valve. He uses his a lot more than I use mine since he switches tires and wheels constantly for racing. So far, neither of us have had any complaints.
Does this jack have the feature where it raises quickly with just a couple pumps before it contacts the vehicle, then takes more pumps to actually lift the vehicle?
Interested to hear about the Costco version as well...I pulled up at least one or two Costco jacks online, in the 3T range, but didn't see an aluminum version. I'm looking for something light I can secure to the truck.
I looked at Craftsman but every single one of the reviews sez "leaks"...looks like their quality has gone to crap, and I bet every one says "Made in China".
I ended up getting a Powerbuilt spider jack...also "Made in China" btw so I'm not holding my breath...but the guys at the Checker have been using Powerbuilts for years at home without leaks.
Summit Racing also sells a 3T model which looks identical to the jack I just lost to an internal valving failure...this jack is probably 10 years old. Dunno the quality of the Summit version but it's a dead ringer on looks, anyway.
My only constant gripe with any of these is the BS little bolt that's supposed to keep the handle halves in one piece...I recommend drilling it out to 1/4" if it's not already, and putting a pin with a wire clip in there...or whatever they're called. Pick 'em up at the hardware store in the nuts 'n' bolts department, it won't come out unless you want it to.
I bought this jack when I had my 04 crew cab. My frame rails were 18" off the ground, so I was looking for a jack that would get me off the ground. The only jacks I could find were the long frame jacks. They are annoying to use and just downright huge. I ended up getting the aluminum jack and just use a block of wood. I havent measured the height of my frame but I think it is around 20-21" so buying a jack to be able to get off the ground by the frame is not economical. Thats what jack stands are for...
Finally purchased the jack at Costco.
(1) It's definitely light weight compared to the Sears model.
(2) the swivel wheels are smooth.
(3) It was mentioned previously that the bar was hard to control when releasing the valve. It seems to be applicable for me as well. Just have to be super careful when unloading. Otherwise, the truck would just drop in a hurry.
(4) the rubber pad is nice.
That's all the review I can think of sharing. Let me know if anyone wants more info.
