Default CV Boot?

I have a 96 lifited toyota tocoma with a 3" toytec tift. I have busted the cv boot of coarse so I have just installed kartek boots but the journals are still touching each other. I was wondering if I need to slide the lower end of the boot down the shaft closer to the wheel past the stop point on the axel in order to to allow the boot to seperate so the journals do not touch. If so how can I do this?
