Default Need to upgrade suspension... a few questions

I have a 2000 non-trd 4x4. I want to do something about the suspension; the black shocks are not doing it for me. I've read so much about troubles with coilovers tearing cv joints and what not, and I don't think I know if I should go that route. If I upgrade to red/blue TRD shocks, should I change my springs too? Or are the non-trd 4x4 springs pretty much the same as trd 4x4 springs. Thanks for the help.

It's not that coilovers will cause damage to the CV boots. It's just lifting the front end past 2.5" will cause premature damage to the boots. If you stick with the lift at 2.5", it'll be all good.

ditto to that. Even if your cv's do leak a little, its VERY easy to remedy. The coil overs give a much improved ride over stock

I am in the same boat as GuardianED. I want to know if going from the non-TRD 4x4 springs to the TRD springs will result in any lift? I like the idea of the red/blue shock being from bilstien (lifetime warranty, gas adjust and all). Anyone out ther done this before. 4x4 standard to TRD springs???

minimal if any lift, just a stiffer spring rate

I have a 2000 tundra 4x4 non TRD version but installed a set of TRD progressive rate coils with the bilstein shocks all around. I also added a 2.5" daystar coil spacer and have noticed a significant ride improvement over stock, plus the truck is now even, not slanting down. i did need to replace the inner CV boots though because they were leaking grease and that was covered by my warranty. Hope this helps.
