Thanks for the info... looks like a good mod for leveling (without going spacer).

How's the ride? Did it get much stiffer?

Thanks

Default Wheelers install

I purchased a set of wheelers, and was going to have a local tire shop install since I don't have a spring compressor. They just informed me they will only mount the springs into the strut assy and I'll have to bring them in cause of liability on parts not bought there.

So can someone guide me to the easy route to remove both struts at once to take to have new springs mounted to blue/white Bilstiens??

I read remove lower 4 bolts on lower control arm...is this right and I can remove both at once and let sit for a couple of hours without bending anything?? Also reinstall tricks if applicable...

Thanx
Kevin

Verndog... getting the coil/shock assembly off is pretty easy. Just jack her up, put stands under her and take the wheels off.

Then loosen the bottom nut (don't take the bolt out yet) and then take the three nuts off the top of the shock tower. Do not remove the center nut up top! Then with someone holding the assembly for you tap the bottom bolt out with a punch. I used a "ball joint knocker outer", southern for pickle fork, and stuck it between the top 2 coil turns and gently pulled up or down to keep the bottom bolt straight while removing it. Hope you can understand this!

Now take the assembly to your local shop and let them swap the coils. There is a good set of instructions and pictures to help with this in the Garage Section... Maintenance and Repair Bay...How To...Front Shock Service and Repair. This shows a picture of how to align the top studs up so that the shock will fit right at the bottom when you reinstall. But, this is the tricky part.

It didn't take me but about 30-40 minutes to get them off. I hope this helps you.

Mike

so40....finally found the section you posted. I still have a question. If the shop misses the 25 deg rotation to upper bolt hole location...(I assume they will) and lower bolt hole won't line up...can I just vise the flat on lower mount and gently use a pipe wrench to rotate upper pattern to the correct 25 degs...without hurting anything.

I would think other then the spring tension holding it, rotating is OK...correct??

Thanx
Kevin

Wonder if a few guys who dumped big bucks on coilover kits aren't wishing they would've waited a bit longer for something like these.

Verndog...

I don't see why that wouldn't work as long as the rubber cushion doesn't start trying to "wad up" while twisting the top. I guess the only other way would be to compress it some and then turn it, but that would require the compressor. It is probably going to be tuff to turn though. Between the pressure from the coil and the grip of the cushion it will take a good bit of leverage, but I think you could do it.

Someone may know of a reason not to do that, but it looks to me like it should work. Depending on which way you have to turn it, make sure it doesn't move the end of the coil away from the spring "stop" at the bottom.

Lightbulb Match mark everything

Vern,

I’m not familiar with the parts you’re installing, but when I took my shock assemblies to the shop for installation of my spacers, I match marked my coils and my shocks with paint to reference the original orientations. Then you can check right there before leaving that everything is aligned and stacked up just how you want it.

My two cents,

Shamrock, Just got off the phone with Gary from wheelers and ordered my set of coils. I really apprieciate people like yourself who take the time to inject their experiences and this site for reserching and to be able to get real feedback from everyday people in the real world who expierience these products first hand !! Anybody else have good results please pipe in on this forum if you will. Shamrock; did you have a spring shop install the coils or did you rent a coil spring compressor? I am going to rent a external spring compressor and istall these bad boy's myself. Any other hints or recomendations you can pass on would be greatly appreitiated.

Default Good Idea

Alan,

you are correct about marking them before having them changed. I started to do that but since a Toyota dealer was doing this for me I figured it wasn't necessary. However, they got the right side just right but I had to take the left side back twice before they got it correct. At least it didn't cost me anything.
