Default Some ?'s about lift kit, body lift, etc.

Ive searched all over the internet to find info about lifting my 03 Tundra but I cant find anything. Around how much would it cost to give my truck a 9 inch lift? I found prices on 315/75/16 wheels but nothing on lifts. Also, do any so cali people know of some places that would do that kind of lift? Thanks!

didja want prices, or information first?

check the thread in my sig line, there's a bunch of information on available bolt-on lifts for tundras--body, suspension and cradle.

you dont need a 9" lift to run 315/75/16 tires...guys here do that with a drop bracket and a coilover. you can stack a coilover lift on a cradle with a body lift on top, but youre getting in to sketchy territory if you want to mess around offroad--thats a lotta height without increasing track width, take the turns easy.

take a look at freejack's photos...he's on some pretty big sneakers.

Tough Country 4.5" = $1200. Regular SAWS 2.5"=$650. Body lift 3" = $200-$300. For a total of 10" of lift. This doesn't include installation cost. I wouldn't recommend taking this set-up at high speeds off road.

I wouldn't reccommend taking a body lift off road to begin with. I've seen some nasty stuff happen on trucks with body lifts. A Tacoma at my local 4x4 shop with a 3" body lift was tested to see how much it could articulate. But, the cab and the bed started to twist different directions, so the guys took off the body lift and did a custom suspension.

I agree but if it's for show, then what the heck. I personally, don't like body lifts.

Yeah, I don't really like them at all. I've never even considered touching my brand new truck with one. But, if you never go off road I guess it won't do too much harm. I'd just wait tho and combine the new Tuff lift (whenever it's out) with a coilover.

I disagree with you guys on body lifts, I have one, and the only people that off-road as much as I do are TSM2U (who just got a body lift) and DeepStealth. Trust me, it holds up just fine. In fact, I prefer it when rock crawling, because rocks hit the frame well before they hit the body.

To BeAst05 - if you got the cash, get a custom suspension (such as freejack2000 and Amerikan2121) and run some 37-38's, otherwise, all you need is 5.5 - 6" in the front to run 315/75/16.

Things That Have Been Broken Off-roading: Front right axle snapped (twice), turned the front diff into a metal milkshake (twice), CV Boots (lost count), Power Steering Rack.... thank god my service writer likes me!

I guess the only thing that really freaks me out about body lifts is the crash that another TS member had in their tundra. If I remember correctly they were on there way back from riding in quads and the TS member let his friend drive. He fell a sleep and hit the side of a hill. He had a body lift on his truck. The body of the truck was separated from the frame upon impact.

I can see them being used more for slow off roading but not for high speed type of wheeling. However, it does help out on fitting 35's.

BTW, I believe Ted(TMS2U has got some 35's on now.

I guess there are two catergories of off-roading.

Offroading, and bumpy dirt roads. I prefer off-roading.

Yes, Ted is (if he hasn't gotten them yet) going to 35's. I just don't like too much negative attention on body lifts, it is a bandwagon of negativity. Most people couldn't spot one if they tried, and a couple liability issues have clouded their rep, but if done tastefully, right, and maintained, they are all but bad. I used to be on the "body lifts suck" bandwagon too, until I did some research and asked around, a lot. I will admit that it is a second alternative, but there is only so much you can do for suspension on our babies!

I was really considering a body lift myself but, decided to not go that route. I figured, I'll pay off my bills as fast as I can, get my own place, then work on doing a solid axle swap. Hopeully within the next 2 years it will be accomplished. See ya on the trails!

    PnkRock13,
I should clear up my position on body lifts. To be honest, I've never seen a Tundra with body lift, but plenty of Tacomas and other trucks. Maybe a Tundra handles it better if the owner knows what he/she's doing (you can lift all you want but how you drive makes the biggest difference.). But for an inexperienced off-roader, I wouldn't reccommend a body lift.
