Default rear axle seal TSB READ THIS!

Turned the TUN in for an oil change and check my rear drum (that has already been TSB'D), it was leaking fluid out for the rim. Get back to the dealer. Rear axle seal busted, flooded my drums. So theyre gonna keep it overnight and replace the seal and my rear again. anybody notice axle grease or brake fluid leaking from the rear, turn it in. This will be the 2nd job on the drums, one or 2 more times, Ill probably switch to 4 disc if anybody is interested in a group buy (sequioa rear conversion, trd, brembo, stop-tech fronts). Hope this helps.

its an 02. everythings free so no group buys just yet. I ask Steve G how much the conversion would be. It would be nice to have 4 D's but at the same time nothing is better than free brakes and you can always machine the drums.

Tundra brakes have been a joke since day one ..It was interesting talking to a sale's guy at my toyota dealership today. He asked me how i liked my truck and i informed him the truck is great. but the brakes being a joke and toyota putting in tacoma pads when it came out in 2000. MY problem has been corrected since the tsb performed back in sept 2002 in which the f/e has revisions done to the brakes in which i noted today the sequioa uses the same brake capliers my tundra has on right now. So far it's been a good match with no problems or vibes to report...

The sales department also informed me today that the tundra d/c due out will arrive at my dealership in 3 to 4 weeks and i'll keep you posted when i do the first test drive since they know me pretty well out there...I do know tundra d/c, will have 4 wheel disk brakes. By the pictures i've seen and hopefully we might expect to see a part number we can buy to maybe update our tundras we have now....

have any of you with this problem ever checked your rear differential breather to see if it's clogged and/or working properly?

Where did you see a picture of the double cab with rear disc brakes? All the pictures I've seen show it with rear drums (the drums look shiny like a disc bu no caliper is visible). Also the Toyota list of changes to 2004 Tundras, most of which deal with the double cab, no where list rear disc brakes. I would be very surprised if Toyota ever puts rear discs on a pickup truck.

front range offroad makes a tacoma conversion kit. it's completely custom, and converts to a full-float. if you're thinking of spending that kind of money, why stick with semi-float and oem parts? i don't know how much the full-float conversion would cost for a tundra, but i'm sure several people contacting them might get them started.

Brake changes for '04

Brake control system (ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, TRAC, VSC and Auto LSD) is newly adapted as optional equipment on 2WD models.

ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, A-TRAC, VSC and Auto LSD - Option (4WD)

On the Brake Control System (ABS) model, the deceleration sensor has been changed from the type that was built into the skid control ECU & actuator to a separate type.

On double cab model with Brake Control System (ABS), a brake pressure conversion unit has been added between the brake booster and the master cylinder in order to provide the proper braking force when the brake booster has no vacuum.

What is Auto LSD? Is that some sort of electronic LSD?

The Auto LSD achieves the equivalent functions of an LSD (Limited Slip Differential) through the use of a traction control system.

Default No Rear Discs??

I can't remember for sure right now, but am pretty sure both Off Road and Truck Trend magazines reported that the doublecab Tundra will have rear drum brakes. Off Road compared the new Tundra to the Nissan Titan, recommended the Titan for off-road, Tundra for on-road. The article criticized Toyota for not having rear disc brakes if I remember right.
