This is a discussion thread titled "ABS installed?", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Just bought my first Tundra used (2000 SR5 4x4) a couple weeks ago. At the time, did not think to ask the dealer if ABS was installed because it didn't matter to me either way.
But yesterday I noticed that there is a check light on the instrument panel for ABS, although it does not illuminate when I turn the key. I am guessing that it is standard for the check light to be installed, but inoperable if ABS is not installed.
I have zero experience with brakes, and am wondering what can I look for to determine that ABS is definitely not installed.
pop the hood. if you see a small silver box with a black cylinder sticking out and very small metal pipes coming out everywhere, and it's secured on top of the fender near the rear of the passenger side in the engine compartment, you have abs. if you have a large blank space there, no abs.
dunno if you can see it in my pictures or not, but if you look under the hood, front to back on the pass. side you'll see the airbox, the power steering fluid reservoir, then a small space, then the abs controller if the vehicle is so equipped.

that explains that big empty space. i was wondering what option went there, that explains it

What is the cylinder bolted to the firewall right above the ABS?
