    Default front suspension

i could use a little help. my 2002 tundra has developed a klunck sound coming from the frt drivers side tire. it even does when going through city gutters and driveways. i know this is avery vague description. is it common for bushings to wear out at 85k miles or am i in bigger trouble. thanks for any tips that i get.

its probably the ball joint or a steering component, but if you want to diagnose the problem your self its good to jack the front end up off the ground and wiggle the tire side to side and up and down to see if there to much play, or uncommon klunking. usually the up and down motion of the tire will discover if theres a bad wheel bearing, and the other method is good for discovering problems with steering components like bad tie rods, idler arm etc.. and a couple other important things would be to check strut mounts for damage, make sure both caliper bolts are in place and also uneven tire wear. it might not be the best way to diagnose problems but its worked for me, so check it out let me know what u find

My '03 Sequoia started doing that and it turned out that the sway bar end link had rusted and snapped. Many have had same issue on Tundra and Sequoia. I'm at 87K on mine and last tire change I saw that the shock mount bushings are pretty much shot also.

Check the sway bar link for that wheel. It rusted and broke on my 2000 tundra this summer, it made a clunk everytime i turned the wheel or went over a bump. its an easy to fix if you have the tools, I replaced mine for around $45

01 Sequoia would Kluck only under certain road conditions like brick road, man hole covers, and rocky terrain. Replaced rack and pinion bushings and the noise went away. Had the wheel the alignment and steering was much more responsive. Truck has over 175K miles far exceeding the life of the rubber bushings.

Definetely a sway bar link or possibly the steering rack bushing on the passenger side. I've never seen ball joints go bad on these trucks but the sway bar links do rust out and break causing "clunk" noises.

Look under the DIY section of first gen. It has some pretty good articles on ball joints, sway bars, and steering bushings. Upgrades I want to do to make my truck drive like it did new.

Get your bushings checked. I had something similar in mine. I have a 2006 SR5 dblcab that I swapped a gas saver for with my brother. Anyways, I noticed a couple things on the truck (got it with 90,351miles) so I decided to take it into a garage I personally know and sure enough it was a couple of bushings in the steering rack and sway bars that were simply done. A couple of bucks and labor later and I was driving smooth again. Find a reputable garage or someone auto handy that you trust and have'em look it over.

    Hoped this helped.

For ball joint seal inspection and lubrication
    interval, refer to PERIODIC MAINTENANCE,
    Section 0.
A periodic front wheel bearing repack is not
required. However, when major brake service is
being performed, it is recommended that the front
wheel bearings be cleaned and repacked with a
    lithium soap, EP grease.
