Default What is the "safest" amount to lift front end?

I have a 2002 Tundra SR5 4X4. I put the Daystar lift with yellow Bilstein's and TRD coils on the front to accommodate larger tires (285 75 R16), but still had a lot of rubbing going over bumps. I put an ARB Bull Bar/Bumper on the front and got some more clearance for the tires, but the bumper weighs so much, it did bring the front end down a little, and I still get tire rub when turning and going over bumps.
    So...
My question is this: Seeing how the front end was lowered slightly by the weight of the front bumper, can I lift the front end a little more to accommodate without stressing out the CV joints too badly? I have limiting straps on as well. Any suggestions on another type of lift that would better accommodate the bumper?
    Any input is appreciated.

    Ken

you can safely lift your vehicle more to make up for the sag caused by that awesome bumper you added. that wont tax the joints any more than before.

think bout it like this: you lift 2 inches, bumper drops you down 1 inch. well then you can lift another inch and the joints will have the exact same angles to them as if you had lifted only 2 inches without the bumper. see what i mean?

I take it you have a 4x4, I wouldnt go much past 2 inches of lift myself. this will allow you to still have some downtravel and allow your cv shafts to work

Thanks HBJeff, that was kind of what I was thinking. What do you think is the best way to add the additional lift? Eventually I was thinking about going with some coilovers, but am not sure which ones. If I did that, I could add a spacer (metal, not daystar) I think.
Are there any other options? Also, what is the best coilover system?

    Whew. Nuff questions for now.

    Thanks again for the help.

I read in one of these post earlier that a guy had the donahoes in the front with the bull bar also. He put the donahoe and spacers in front so he didn't have to extend out the donahoes all the way. He said for him it worked great and leveled his truck out since he had the bars to weigh it down.

I tried looking for the post for you, just couldn't find it, but I know its in here, and maybe he'll respond here also .

With a small 2.5" lift on the front, the Tundra almost seems fairly squared off from top-to-bottom and side-to-side fairly even. Once you cross that horizontal point where your top end is taller than you are wide, you start to increase the chance of roll-over. Now granted there's not much weight in the top, but there's also not much top weight in cars like the Isuzu Trooper and the like and they start to roll if you blow on em too hard.

i remember that post, iirc i also remember mentioning the usual about the upper ball joint, and i think he has uniball uppers, which ok the spacer on top of the stock length donahoe.

anyway, hbjeff is spot on with the coilover suggestion as the adjustability is well suited to adding weight to the front in addition to a lift...the explanation of what youre actually doing when you adjust the coilovers is kinda long, poke around in this forum as there are a few explanations floating around.

if you dont want to mess with coilovers right now, go from (im guessing) the 2" spacer you have now to a 2.5" spacer, but use a spacer that fits inside the coil pack, not on top if possible.

I have Revtek spacers, I like them cause they fit in the coil pack real nice and snug so there's no sliding around...

i would suggest putting donahoe coilover set at 2.5 or 3 " and 5100 bilstein at the rear you will notice that your front will be higher by 1/4" if you put a level at the bed rail and by adding that arb bull bar i'm sure it will level the truck, cause i have this set-up with AAL it looks level on the naked eye but when i put the level @ the bed rail it has a very slight pre-runner look, just my 2 cents....

Thanks for all of the info guys. I forgot to mention that I do have rear AALs (I think they are Fabtech). I like the ride now, with the DayStars and the AALs, just wish I could get rid of the rubbing. I also have limiting straps to help protect over extending the front susp.
I appreciate all of the advice on the different front end setups too. I would like to "upgrade" at some point, but it will probably be a while (we have a 4 month old baby girl now).

    Thanks again,

    Ken
