Well, after all winter of building this thing, it only lacks brake lines, a drive shaft and a minor repair to the steering wheel internals. It is setting on it's tires and wheels on the ground for, more or less, the first time. Height from the ground to the bottom of the wheel wells is 46.5". It's a tad bit too tall, but I can still drop it about 2" by turning down the shock collars. Just posted pics.

It's great! When the shocks are compressed all the way, there is still about 1/4" between the steering drag link and the sump! I can't believe I got that lucky. Bottom line is, I believe this 5 link setup is a little taller than the leaf spring trucks, just tall enough to eliminate the clearance problem.

Looks awesome man, cant wait to see that thing in action! I need to clean the drool off my keyboard now...
Now it's your turn!

Hopefully the gallery will be back up soon so I can see the progress you've made!
What did you end up doing about the brakes? Jonathan has worked out a nice alternative that uses a 76 Blazer MC and a Wilwood PV.
Hey Ted,
THe brake thing ended up with me going to the chevy HD brake parts circa 1980's. With the budget squeeze in the final stages, it was all I could do to get to this point, so nothing fancy so far. As of today the brakes aren't even connected yet. I just ordered the fittings and stainless lines to get it all connected. That should happen in a week or so.
I see you are suggesting I am going to have a MC problem...bummer. I won't know until it gets hooked up, but assuming my setup is essentially the same as yours and Jonathan's, I am obviously due to take the same trip. What did Jonathan do exactly? Funny how we all end up experiencing the same problems...

Its really straight forward and you can do it for about $100. The hardest part is adjusting the plunger length so that the vacuum seal is not compromised with the different MC. See HERE and HERE for more details and parts. The chevy MC pretty much bolts right up to our booster with only minor modification. I've got all the goodies, now I just need a day without rain

I haven't had any problems with the brakes, YET!!! I think I just jinxed myself. I've slammed on the brakes on dry pavement, wet pavement, uphill, downhill without a hiccup. However, Jonathan's route sure does look nice and seems to be a better set-up.
flyin6-who/what parts did you go with for the hydro assist? I'm considering hydro assist as a project for next year. I'm trying to see if it would be cheaper to buy parts separately or buying a kit. Tedd, I know you went with the Redneck Ram set-up.
Hey have you SAS guys ever looked at a Hydrolic brake booster and Master cylender? What I mean is like on the older chevy diesel cars and trucks they had a booster that ran off the PS pump... Might be worth looking into if you guys move to anything larger than a 35" wheel.

I just called Parts Mike for the PSC rebuilt and modified IFS box and the 1.5" X 8" stroke ram. Here's a hint, buy 12 feet of line, the 6 feet they send you simply will not be enough. The stuff is steel braided, and has a blue fabric sheath and is only $2 per foot if you call PSC directly. I used almost all 12 feet of the line in my application which mounts the ram on the right side of the axle.
Ted, thanks for the tip on the brakes, I'll get that MC ordered tomorrow. BTW, if you wnat to switch to AN-3 lines, the same street rod shop that sold all of us out adapters for the IFS pressure line has metric to AN steel male and female adapters.

The new chevys have that setup also. I have a 04, 4X4 Z-71 Surburban as a family car which has this type of setup. I think the brakes on that thing are great! Kinda like the power of that vortec also. I am not ashamed to say I am considering a built 6.0 vortec for my tundra someday in lieu of the supercharged 4.7 it now has...

The PS pumps are pretty taxed as it is with HA, not sure it could handle more work
For the most part my brakes work good, but I dont have a bottom to the pedal for panic stops. Since the 37's are only gonna make that worse, its time to change it up!
