Suspension & AxleTechnical discussions regarding alignment, stock and modified suspensions, lift kits, axles, hub conversions, gearing and steering.
This is a discussion thread titled "Rear Lifting, Block Help", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hello TS,
This is my first post so please excuse the amateur nature of the question. I have searched thoroughly for a post on rear, + lift, + blocks, + etc. but I haven’t been able to find what I need. In fact, what I have found only leads to more questions… So here goes. Sorry if you pros have already answered these questions.
I have a 2002 4X2 AC and do very light offroad driving, mostly to find slope soaring cliffs (R/C Glider Stuff). I’ve recently purchased a set of Bilstien coil-overs for the front. I’m real happy with the look and ride. I had 2” cordfeds before the Bilstiens. The new 2.5” front lift inspired me to lift the rear, mainly to get the level stance back. Besides, I need new tires soon and I was thinking of going larger 285’s.
With the amount of off-roading I do I decided to go with 1” blocks from Wheelers. I downloaded the installations instructions for Tuff Country’s 4.5” lift to see what their method is for installing the rear blocks. This gave me a good idea of what I’m getting my self into. Still, I’ve read a few posts here that have me confused.
I am only installing a 1” block in the rear. Do I need to relocate the BPV?
I DO NOT have a TRD package. Will my stock rear shocks be OK with this lift or do I need new ones?
I just got my truck’s front end alignment done last week. Will I have to realignment after the 1” rear lift?
First off, since, you are installing coilovers, at least install an AAL in the rear. This will help a little but not as much as if you were to get a custom spring pack but, better than the blocks.
You should relocate your BPV. Just get a piece of flat bar and drill the necesary holes to relocate it up 1". Easy and cheap.
The shocks will be fine for now. Eventually, you'll want o upgrade.
As far as the alignment, I wouldn't worry about it. Also, check to see if your alighment shop has a warranty on their work. Some places have a 1 year/12000 mile warranty. I'd always take mine to the place I got the alignment and have them re-adjust it for free. If they do and you really feel the need to have it checked, take it back and have them re-adjust it.
