This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra suspension question ?", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have a 2004 Tundra DC, 4x2, TRD, and would like to know why my friend's 2005 Tundra DC, 4x2, TSS series ride is smoother. He brought his 2005 tundra with the Sports Series and I think he has the 20" toyota chrome rims with the thin Toyo tires. My TRD came with the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires.
Going over bumps on the roads, I can feel the bumps more with my 2004 truck. With the 2005 Tundra, I almost feel none of the bumps. The 2005 truck seems to be about 40% smoother over bumps than my 2004. Does anybody know how to go about making changes to the Tundra 2004 to make it smooth as the Tundra 2005?
It will be driven on the highway 90% of the time to deliver equipment about 600 lbs.
What changes would I need to make? Shocks? Tires? Coil? Springs? Hmmm...
Trying to make 2004 DC feel like 2005 DC Sport Series. Suspension and Tire question?

Thanks for your advice. Do you think my 2004 DC TRD Offroad will be smoother if I change to the factory shocks like the 2005 DC TSS Series shock and maybe a set of BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A Tires will smooth things out?
I'm guessing that the BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A (P265/70R16) are smoother than the Michelin LTX M/S. I would set the tire pressure at about 32psi front and 32psi back.
If anyone has tried the BF Goodrich Long Trail and has like other brands, please let me and other members know. Do you think the tread design of my friend's 20" Toyo tires (the 20" Toyo Proxes S/T High Performance) are smoother? Maybe I should try the Toyo Proxes design in the 16" tires. I would also like your comment on your favorite tire for a smooth ride and how much tire pressure you used in front and back.
2nd question, Are the springs, shocks, or other suspension parts the same in 2004 DC TRD versus the 2005 DC TSS (Toyota Sport Series)?
Anymore helpful advice to smooth this 2004 DC would be very appreciated.
For the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail, I currently set 32 psi front and 32 psi back. I find the ride to be smooth and average, but I keep comparing it to my friend's 2005 DC Tundra 20" TSS package.
His TSS package runs over minor bumps and expansion cracks very smooth with no jiggles or bounce. However, my tundra runs over bumps with a little jiggle and a bounce. It also has a light vibration in the front seats.
Will the exact shocks like the TSS package smooth things out and if so, do any of you who have the TSS give me the shock part number?
Should I change the springs with the shocks to smooth the ride?
I just bought a 2005 AC 2WD Tundra. I'm looking to upgrade the suspension without the lift. I haven't driven a TRD but I'm wondering if installing the stock TRD shocks, springs ect. would eliminate the sway and oversteer the truck has? Any suggestions??
