Corolla Alignment Question

Hi,

I have a '99 Corolla and it was wearing unevenly on the front left tire. I replaced my tires and was advised to get my alignment checked. The mechanics at the alignment place took my car for half a day. I drove the car around before taking it from the shop. It was now pulling to the left - which it didn't do before. I spoke with the mechanixs and they said they needed a part to complete the alignment, but wouldn't tell me what that part might be. My question is, what could that part be and will fixing my alignment keep my new tires from wearing unevenly?

It could be a couple of things. If they couldn't adjust toe it's probably a tie rod end. If camber is off,it's a specially ground bolt.
