This is a discussion thread titled "who has lockers in front", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
just curious who put lockers in their tundras, im thinking of putting lockers in my front. wasnt planning on putting one in the back because i already have a posi rear and i use this as a daily driver. where did you guys get it and whats the best.
Mike Donofrio and Chrislloyd have front lockers. The type that replace the spider and side gears. Detroit locker and Lock Right Locker. Both are practically the same. ARB has a selectable locker for the front end, lots of $$$ compared to the two mentioned prior.
i have a front locker... havent been off road with it yet. played with it on a rainy day in the parking lot at work... shouldnt have done that.. but i did. it was really hard to drive... couldnt hardly turn and such. i took it out of 4x and thought.. ****.. what did i do?!?! i drive in the snow frequently... and thought this would kill me in the snow.
i was in the snow over the weekend and it was actaually really great. i had tons of traction. i was pretty slow speed with it (less than 20). i not sure what to do at the 35-50 mph range in the snow... i used to have the 4x on. i dont think i will with the locker now... going from slightly slippery to not would be a bit scary i think.
cant wait to try it offroad. i regeared at the same time i put the locker in. that was great.

I too have installed a locker in the front. At first, I loved it. I do some mild offroading and noticed a great difference with the truck. Now when I say mild, I mean fender high mud runs, off camber clay hill climbs, some slight technical rock stuff. My truck can now go places an open diff can't with one exception, your CV's. You see, your weakest link is now your Cv's and they are extremely weak. I have been through 3 sets so far and have cut down on offraoding fearing I might break another. So, for less than mild offroading I say go ahead. but then again you'd be just as safe locking the rear and putting an LSD in the front.
I am also thinking of exchanging my front diff (locker and all) for a stock diff and cash. When I finally get to Idaho, I will be cutting the IFS off and going for the ultimate. SAS baby.
