Suspension & AxleTechnical discussions regarding alignment, stock and modified suspensions, lift kits, axles, hub conversions, gearing and steering.
This is a discussion thread titled "New Donahoes installed and they creek", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
okay here it goes, I need some help on these. purchased these at Wheelers offroad. well I have the DRE (I'm sure they are, 19 inches, before being cranked up) and the TC UCA's installled, 1 inch longer than stockers to adapt the donahoes. Found out the hard way the Extended needed the UCA's. The problem with these now are I'm done and the passenger side is making (I have no way to describe it, but a metal to metal sound when cranking them up), we have uncranked them, taken them off to check the springs to see that the spring is seated on properly below and up top and cranked them tight. So I put them on the truck again and it's still doing this, I need to know why this is happening?
And when Test riding these the ride is great, but when stopping hard the suspension feels loose, like something is sliding forward. We have set all torque specs back to normal.
does anyone know what this (these) problem (s) are . What can possibly being doing this
not sure about the creaking (i never experienced it on my donahoes), but have you had an alaignment done yet?
No, No alignment yet, seems fine to me, gone to 95 mph and it steers straight enough like it did before, should I get an alignment? I know its set to DJ's specs, does it change that much for 2-2.5" of lift?
And does anyone know why they would creek and clunk, usually when the front suspension compresses, or going off curbs (just testing it so far) and when coming to a hard stop it's sounding like movement on parts ( keep in mind everything is torqued down to specs) ,I need some good advice
another thing is the passenger side shock when cranking them up or down, makes nasty sounds between the coils and where the spanner wrench is used to crank up or down(sorry I do not know the name of the part , but I hope you know what I am talking about) Well should I be worried about all of this happening or is this a break in for all the parts and how long should it take for all of this to settle in? and last of all the mount on top of the coilovers seems to be twisting side to side when cranking the coilover up or down as well, could that be one sound on top of the other sounds this is making. I have not touched the shocks when they came out of the box(like loosening or tightening) other than cranking them more after the problems were already existant
So does anyones' , Total Chaos UCA's,(camburg) DRE's combination package clunk like mine does, know anyone elses that has or just know the answer to my problems I'm having with these shocks, I wouldn't have boughten these if I knew they were to do this. what could be the problem(s)
The clunking your hearing is normal...or so ive heard, Its the donahoes topping out when you hit a big dip or something that will cause your suspension to drop out fully, and that sound is the internal limiting strap doing its job....still dont know what to tell you about the creaking.

Yes if I understood you correctly.... u had DJ's alignment specs on your old stock setup (?) and now 2-2.5" of lift will definitely need an alignmanent.

Yeah, put 2 inch bigger tires on now its really out of whack. So will the stock specs work for my lifted truck, DJ says he cannot verify this working properly, because he does not deal in lifting and setting new standards on something that is lifted, so from anyone standpoint on using them on this setup of lifting , does this work sufficiently still and
... that passenger side shock makes nasty sounds only when cranking up or down have any advice on why it might be doing this? Anyone who knows can be of help.
I said TOPPING out, not bottoming out...big difference. Trust me, these shocks do top out when running 2.5" of lift and should be accompanied by a distinctive clunk of the internal limiting strap. As far as your creaking of cranking up your coils....they are under immense pressure, its probably the friction between the collar and coil, try spraying some silicone lube in there and see if that helps.
But hey, if all else fails you could call donahoe himself and ask. They've always been helpfull when I call, worth a shot.
