This is a discussion thread titled "BAD rear spring sag", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
So my rear springs have gone from bad to worse. I had 5 8 foot tables in it today and it looked like it was goin to hit the bumpstops almost. I havent had a trailer hooked up in a while, but now im scared to do so. I put a full replacement front bumper on it (see my pics) back at thanksgiving and shortly after that I installed some daystar front spacers. When I first installed them it sat exactly level, which really surprised me because the bumper brought the front end down quite a bit and I was sure the back would still sit slightly higher than the front. Now the rear sits over an inch lower than the front and Im afraid its only going to get worse.
So my question is where do I need to start with this? Ive got 56000 on it, so its outta the full coverage warranty, and Im sorta doubting whether or not the extended warranty I have until 75000 will cover it. Ive had the thing in twice for the springs squeeking like crazy and both times they have just told me all they can do is grease the springs and about 2000 or so miles later they start the squeeking again and it goes on til I get the time to take it in. Do I need to try to get the rear springs replaced stating that they havent fixed the problem in the past?
Thanks for any help guys, its appreciated greatly. I really need to get this fixed soon cause Im finally buying me a smaller horse trailer (after I sold my first one) that I can tow with the Tundra rather than using friends trucks and bigger gooseneck trailers.
I actaully dont haul much at all. Bed is empty 99% of the time with the only things in there being a bed mat and tool box which has been in there since the truck was about 7 months old. Hardly ever have anything else back there, and my towing is limited to about once every other month if that, because I usually use other peoples trucks to tow, with bigger trailers also. So ya, I dont tow much at all at this point, but Im getting to the point Im gonna have to start towing more which is why I want this problem fixed
The only thing that's a little confusing is... with that heavy bumper out front... even with your spacers... I would've thought the front would still be lower than the rear... or at the least "level"?! If you didn't have the aftermarket front bumper, I could see why the rear would be lower.
btw: what "size" spacers did you get? (i.e. 1", 2", 2.5", etc.)

2.5 daystar spacers. there are also some pics after the bumper was installed and before the spacers were installed in my pics to show you how low the front sat. im gonna measure my ground to fender here in a few minutes and ill post it to see how it compares to other guys with 2003s and running 265/75/16 tires on stock size wheels
i know the AAL will help, but i want to know why they just keep sagging.....do they really wear out that fast? if so then toyota has a problem....at least in my opinion
35 1/2 inches on drivers side
35 3/4 inches on passenger side
that is from the ground through the hub and then up to the highest point in the fender.
truck specs are stock rear suspension, 16x8 wheels and 265/75/16 bfg all terrains. part of the reason for the difference in height is because the passenger rear tire had to be replaced due to chunking and so it has much more tread than the drivers
since i have an extended warranty i decided to try the dealer today, just so i can get this taken care of. went in and we called the extended warranty company and they said as long as the dealer sees obvious premature failure then they will warranty it. talked to the service manager and we pulled another 03 that is completely stock outta the shop when it was done and put it next to mine and it sat way higher in the back than mine. goin in in the morning for them to put it on the rack to see what they can find to determine what the problem is. service manager said that he had never seen one that bad, and that was topped off by them squeeking again as i pulled into the shop. ill keep yall updated, anyone got the measurement for stock rear so i can compare it with my measurements above?

wes
That would be sweet if you get new ones under warranty.
The leaf springs on my '02 Tundra were replaced under warranty after only 18K. They sqeeked and sagged.
I have have put 30K on them and have had no problems with the new "made in Mexico" set.
