Question doublecab OEM shock question - trip to dealer service?

i was swapping back on the summer tires and rims today and was making the usual check over of basic stuff i like to do with the tires off. what should i find but a cracked shock cover on the drivers side. it was also time to do the 25,000 service, so i think this should be under warranty.

anybody care to chime in and let me know if this is worth a trip to the dealer? these are the factory black with red stripe tokiko shocks. the damage is to the plastic "cover" that attaches at the top and extends down over the metal piston and encircles the shock body. it's cracked at the top and skewed a little causing the plastic to rub a shiny spot on the shock body.

i haven't offroaded the truck hard and i can't see any evidence of anything else that is damaged so i don't think it was a road hazard type of incident. looks like a stress crack to me near the top where the plastic bends over and connects to the top of the shock. possibly an expansion crack from water getting in there and freezing could be another explanation. sorry, didn't think to take a photo...

is this going to cause damage down the road as dirt and water get in there or is it just cosmetic (i know, it's behind the tire, but it's cosmetic to me and anybody that works on it! ;-) what should i ask for? a replacement of the same thing? credit for an upgrade? etc...

thanks for any advice!
