This is a discussion thread titled "Rear suspension squeak", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have a "05 Tundra Doublecab and recently installed 1.5" rear steel blocks with Bilstein 5100 shocks. After installing the new suspension I have noticed when I go over bumps I get a faint squeaking noise that seems to be coming from the rear of the truck. I try bouncing the truck and can't seem to locate the squeak. I have two possible theories. First, I am having a problem at the upper mounts of the new shocks causing a squeak. The other theory is that I am getting a squeak where my blocks meet the leaf spring or perhaps where they meet the axle perch. Anyone had a similar problem? Any thoughts on how to fix it?
Try to remove the tailgate . I have a similar squeek coming from the tailgate pivotpoints( Hinges).I tried to lube with silicon spray, doesn't last long. Maybe some teflongrease will do the job.
Thanks Vman, I was thinking about trying that lastnight...and ran out of daylight. I'll try it and get back to you.
After reading about the bed mounts as well, and wonder if that is what is causing it. The reason I think this is due to the bed being removed soon after purchase of my brand new truck. I actually had lot damage from the day of purchase to which the dealership agreed to fix. They had to paint my two passenger side doors, and blend in the back of the cab, but had to remove the bed to do it. They may not have tightened the bed down properly??
Anyway, I'm not sure what tsb's are out for the 05' double cab, but I'll take it to the dealership and see what they can do?? I don't have much faith in them after the many faulty speculations they have provided in the past.
Have you all had the TSB done on the rear shocks??? Mine squeeked and then I took it in and they did had a TSB for a shock washer being in the wrong way and no more squeek. From what I hear many on here have had it done and had no more squeking.
Here you go: TSB for Rear Shock Squeak. It was issued Dec. 04 and revised Jan. 05. It's in the Garage and is no. SU003-04 Squeeky bed when hit bumps ?

I'm not sure if I can use the tsb, as I have replaced the stock shocks with aftermarket Billstein 5100's when I did the rear add-a-leaf. Do you think the tsb is the same on the aftermarket shock?

Well they will probably give you a bad time since it was replaced. What you could do is ask around on this board (Or the dealer) to see what the tsb involves and do it your self. I heard a few memebers did it themselves and it was not hard at all. I am just not sure of what they did specifically to tell you how. I think it involves moving a bushing from one side of the washer to another or something simple like that. So try asking the other members what they did.

Okay, I finally got it done, and it does work!! I am so thrilled, and love to have my windows down agian!!
Interestingly, the aftermarket Billstein 5100 shocks have the exact same metal hat on the bushing (I guess for longer life) and it was no problem to flip them over. I made sure to notify the shop I bought them from that they should be installed per the tsb instructions to eliminate any squeaks from them.
What a freakin' relief! Thanks for the help. And NO thanks to the dealership who could NOT find the tsb (which I'll be sure to mail them).
I have a Tacoma TSS, mine came factory with Bilstein shocks, I have had the truck now for about four months and the sqeaking, that started out soft, is now so bad and so loud that I am taking it to my dealer once a week just out of spite because they will not help me. Today they told me that if I want to fix the problem I will need to buy new shocks for the truck, they suggested that I buy the shocks that comes on the average Tacoma. I do not feel like I should have to pay for this, but they tell me the "noise" is not anything that Toyota see's as a problem. But seriously people this is my fourth Toyota and I have never had one problem with any of my other's so this can not be normal, the sqeaking is so loud now I can hear it while driving down the road at full speed with my windows up!! I am water blasting the underneath of the truck the best that I can at least three times a week, at eight dollars a pop I am getting very sick of it.
