This is a discussion thread titled "A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just put on my Toytech 2.5" lift and aal and 305/50/20 toyo open country's on my deep six's. I love the look, ride, handling, and tires. I do however have some problems I wanted some answers to.
1. How close is your upper control arm to your tire? Mine at normal ride hight and with either wheels turned, can only fit a pice of cardboard between the tire and the upper control arm. But when the suspention gets compressed, the tire rubs worse on the upper arm. I do have "minor" rubbing on the frame, but I am not worried about that. I dont want to ruin my tires. Can you grind down the arm to get more clearance.
2. With the 2.5" front spacer and rear aal, is your truck level? I was under the impression that with a 2.5" front spacer only, the truck would sit higher in the front than the rear, and the add a leaf would level that up. My lift sits about 1.5" higher in the rear than the front. No biggie, I would just have liked to have it level.
Thanks to all that have helped me pick out this combo and puttin up with my ?'s for the last 3 months.

Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
I just put 1.5 " aluminum wheel spacers on my 03 Tundra. About 100
miles and all is well. Need to recheck torque on spacer lugs often till
it seats, then periodically. This could give you some extra room between
your UCA and sidewall. I love the new "stance"along with a 2.5" lift.

My '06 DC was 3" lower in the front.....put the 2.5" Daystar front spacers only and the truck is totally level. Go figure
With the 285/60R18 Nittos there is no rub anywhere.

Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
I've got a few pictures on here of how close the 285/75/16's get to the UCA... it's barely a finger, but it hasn't been a problem at all. I did lose a tiny bit of turning radius to it because you can't turn the wheell to full lock in either direction anymore without a little rub against the frame and the UCA.
Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
First off I have 33x12.50 procomps on a 4x4 tundra 2006 Dcab. I put a 2.5" toytech lift with 1.5" Alcan AAl's my truck clears the 33's no prob. My truck is level. I offroad quite a bit. The prob is the back spacing on your rim. I run a 17x9" rim with a 4.5" BS. It all runs perfect. even before I put the lift I was running the same rim and tire with only a little rubbing when sharp turning or large bumps. Now it all clear and actually the tires appear a little small for the setup. but i don't think 35" will fit, maybe with a little trimming.

I belive that the backspacing on my rims are either 4 or 4.5. Did your truck "settle" any? I would think that the rear would settle a bit.

You where running 33" tires with stock suspension and had no major rub? WOW, I put on some 32" Nitto Terra Grapplers with the stock suspension and I could not have driven the truck without ripping the wheel weel out.
Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
not stock suspension, he's got a lift...
1. you can modify the upper control arm but for the time and trouble it will take to change it, youre better off getting a set of uniball upper control arms. try the camburg. if you grind parts off the stock uca, you need to weld in a replacement piece, since it's a hollow structure except directly around the ubj slug, where you dont want to remove metal. get the uniballs before you mod the stock ucas, but given the price point youre better off getting the wheel adapters before you get uniballs, since i doubt youre romping it with barely six inches of sidewall (at least i hope not).
it might take some searching but i and others have written some long posts on how the uniballs cycle different from the stock uca and why it helps to get a uniball. short story is that as you droop the stock suspension, you lose clearance between the tire and the stock uca because of the way the stock ubj is linked to the spindle and the stock uca.
normally a 305-anything wont fit with 4.5" backspacing (probably what you have) because of the problem youve described. verify the backspacing you have, and go with either a 1.5" wheel adapter (im running them now to clear a 315/75/16 with less than 4" of lift, and soon a 37x12.5R17, check out my photos to see why/how), or get the uniballs on top. with the uniballs and the adapter, i have about 1.5" of space between the sidewall and uca, and nothing rubs anywhere, period. the frame and body/cab mount are completely untouched (until i flex hard and turn, then it might rub). adapters range between 130 and 180 bucks...steel or aluminum doesnt really make a difference, both are run on desert trucks that see plenty of abuse. uniball arms are several hundred.
how wide are your rims?
2. the aal is carrying almost all the weight right now since its brand new. put a few hundred pounds of sandbags in the bed and it will settle down.
Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
With 2.5 in. up front and 1in. in the rear and 285s I have about the same clearnace as imjin about a in or so. Wow a piece of cardboard is not much.

Well, I drove it about 20 miles today and came back and checked for any more wear on my tire and rubbing on the uca. I found a *tiny* bit of paint off of the front uca's and no scuff marks on the tire.
I will definatly look into those wheel spacers and I will put a couple of sandbags in the rear to level.

Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
Question about the wheel spacers? Do they not push the tire out, therefore getting closer to the inner fender when turned? No one can 285's on a stock Tundra because of the inner fender clearance right? At least thats what I found when I mounted one and tried it. So even after a lift, 2.5 or 3" , how can a 285 turn with a 1.5" spacer between it and the spindle???

Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
I Just Found Out That Eagle Rims 186's With A 4" Backspacing Rub Like Crap ON THE CALIPER...I Thought 3-5/8 B/s Would Work And Wanted To Have A Little Extra Room So I Went With A 4" B/s But Was Wrong... So I Had To Order Spacer And Lugnut Extenders. Can Anybody Tell Me Why 4" Won't Work On My Truck But Others Can Go With 3-5/8???? I Have A 2006 Db Tundra!!!!!!!!
Re: A few ?'s for 2.5" lift owners with 32-33" tires.
not all rims have the clearance inside the rim to clear the caliper. just the way theyre made, unfortunate but thats the way it goes. the "rock crawler" steel wheels are the same way, it's not the backspacing that matters so much as how the wheel is formed between the mounting surface and the body of the wheel.
