This is a discussion thread titled "Best 2.5-3" lift kit for Tundra 4x4?", within the Suspension & Axle forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
What is the best, in your opinion, 2.5-3" lift kit for an 01 tundra 4x4 AC v8? I was planning on putting on 285's on the stock rims for a clean look? just curious what the best kit was? pro comp? revtek? toytech? i won't be doing hardcore offroading, but i want to leveled look and bigger tires...

I have the toytech 2.5" lift and other than the really rough ride and decreased shock travel due to the compression of the spring assembly by the lift spacer, I love it. I was able to fit 32.5" tires and it is definatly higher.

sweet truck man...is the ride much worse? how much worse? how much did your lift cost? why did you choose toytech over the others? thanks
I like the setup of daystars 2.5 lift...go to Wheeler's Off Road and check out their prices on it! It will barely affect the ride as it uses two spacers one in the coil and one in the top plate which doesnt affect the ride! i have the in the coil spacer installed now which BARELY affected the ride and i should have the other spacer in tomorrow! Also how brandon speaks of a harsh ride...part of it is due to his aftermarket rims....not trying to rag on you brandon ...but it does play a part.

perfect man...i appreciate it...why is the revtek kit more expensive than all the others...the daystar one look sufficient...also, on the pro comp kit, there is the 1" drop bracket for the diff...have you heard anything about that...i do plan to keep the stock rims and just add 285's...what are your plans?

Yes you will need the 1" diff drop...search for Total chaos and you will find there diff drop which you will need for the cv angles...You will rub the uca and frame with stock rims and 285s therefore without aftermarket wheels im stuck just like you...however I plan on either going with 265/75s which are a 32x10.5 pretty much or im going with 255/85s which are a 33x10.1ish tire.....I havent decided yet! Heres some pics of teh 255/85s you might find them alittle to skinny for you taste though which i havent made up my mind on yet. 2002 Tundra Photo Gallery by rapidpix at pbase.com

Ok, thats cool. BUT, when I went from stock 16's to 20's, I DID NOT feel a difference in ride quality. At all. None. I have tried to tell many members this, but none of them seem to listen. The reason my truck rides so rough IS the lift. Point blank. Do you think toyota would put 20's on their trucks if it affected ride? Probably not.
I am not trying to be a piss-a$$, but I am tired of everyone telling me that my rims are cause for rough ride. No offence intended.
mikeTRDtundra: the ride is not a whole lot worse on "normal" roads, but go over a speed bump or a big dip in the road, and your teeth will fall out. It is due to the spacer that gives the lift compressing the spring. Not as much travel to work with. therefore, harsher ride. The lift was $220, and I got this one b/c many people spoke highly of toytech and thier lifts.

you might not have...but i think with the lift on now..that the 20's might be playing more of a part. In the mean time are you looking at swapping out for anything else? daystar? coilovers? or are you looking at keeping the toytec?

I have an 2004 4x4 with the donahoes and I run a 17 inch rim. I haven't really experienced any change in ride quality. Also I would highly recommend the diff drop spacers.
For the money.....daystar. It's only like $175 for 2.5 up front and 1.5 in the back if you get the add-a-leaf! That's cheap for a simple lift!
