its not as simple as just dropping it a notch, you have to take the hole shock out compress the coil, change the setting and put the shock back in. cheaper just to get blocks. i have them set at 2.5 and it looks level to me check my pictures

As far as desirable, with towing and a 5'2" wife and two kids, there needs to be a balance.
you would only need a 1 inch block, nothing would go wrong

Yeah, I'm aware that it would be a process that would take some time and thus money. I've had lots of people tell me that 1" blocks won't cause axle wrap, etc..., but since I am looking at some towing use, I would prefer options that can be beneficial there as well, if possible. That's why I mentioned air bags or the Super Springs.
I have plenty of time to figure it out though.

Re: How about a Bilstein 5100 Adjustable shock update
I was going to install mine myself, but i began thinking of my inexperience and the time i would spend doing this and then got a good quote for them to be put on and have my tire sensors put in my new wheels balance and the whole deal so i decided against it. I was going to do a rookie DIY for everyone to see, but oh well. I had them installed yesterday and the guys told me that it really is different on each tundra where the setting should be to make it level. They thought it was going to need to be the second, but it ended up being the highest setting. I did have front and rear 5100's put on. It is pretty level. I need to take measurements to really know for sure. But it looks good. The ride is much better as well. I have a 2wd crewmax for information purposes. After looking at this i thnk i got the bug and have a feeling down the road i will be going up to 6" lift. This truck just looks so bad *** lifted. Just need to work a little harder to make gas a no issue! I will get pictures up over the weekend. Let me know if there are any questions.
Re: How about a Bilstein 5100 Adjustable shock update
ontheway,
I have a '07 crewmax with TRD package. You think this shock is better than the TRD shocks? I do not do off-road.... I want something that give me soft ride... like a SUV. Any shocks out there that give me a comfort soft ride on the street? I do not tow or carry heavy stuffs.
Re: How about a Bilstein 5100 Adjustable shock update
I did not have the trd package. I have a limited and there is no question that these shocks are better than the stock. As far as the bilsteins they put on the trd, i have heard some complaints about them. I believe that bilstein knew they were for a package from a manufacturer and may not have put the time in to make them as good as the series of aftermarket shocks. As far as riding like an suv i really can not give you info there, since i put 305 55 20 Nitto Terra tires on mine. Even with the new tires i feel it is a better ride. Hope that helps.

I was told by BILSTEIN when I called that crewmax can only get 1.5 inch lift at highest setting wih 5100. Is that the information you got?
Any concern of shimmy at higher speeds like the 1st generation have at higher setting?
WHAT DID THEY charge you for install and alignment to give me better idea?
And of course we are all awaiting pics of crewmax WITH SHOCKS, SIDE VIEW.
Re: How about a Bilstein 5100 Adjustable shock update
Sound like my old coach!!! lol
I have to find a place in Houston that won't charge 4 hours of labor instead of 2 and that doesn't tell me that they have to sell parts for an arm and 2 legs in order to install them.
Wheelers price isn't bad, just have to find install guy that charges decent and does honorable, good work.
If I could install them myself, THEY WOULD BE ON BY NOW.
Just wanted to know setting for crewmax where nose isn't up without block?
