Default How about a Bilstein 5100 Adjustable shock update

Anyone want to chime in with updates on how their adjustable 5100's are working out for them. I know from earlier threads that there was a reported problem with a collapsed collar/sleeve. I'd like to know if there have been any other problems.

There was that one and only that one problem reported. No one else here has reported any problems. I'm going to get mine installed next Monday (insert crossed fingers here).

I will report back, of course.

I put them on a few weeks ago. WOW!!! I was suprised how simple the install was and even more; how great they look and feel. I am VERY impressed with this setup. I used the 5100's in the front and rear with the TC Diff Drops and 285/70-17 BFGs. You will need to use a wheel spacer/ adapeter or new wheels to avoid rubbing the upper control arm on a super tight turn. I will post pictures soon. I do have some grease slinging from the CV Boot though...it seems a little loose??? I'm really not a mechanic but am looking into the best way to deal with this. The ride is better than stock, and obviously so are the looks. $500 well spent!

Great pls post some pics. I have an 06 LTD and with the 17" rims not a lot of bigger tires to choose from so I am also looking at the 5100 and BFG set up.
My 97 chev rubbed a little bit on lock to lock turns but other than a little polishing on the control arm no big deal. Do yours rub a lot?
What setting did you put the clip on?
And what did you put on for the back as the 5100's only show for front?
Cheers

yes, because the shock has settings for 3 different lift heights. I believe the highest is at 2.6" of lift in the front, so it would be pretty much the same as you have now.

You would not want an in-coil spacer, because the new shocks compress the spring enough as it is. Theoretically, you could add a top-of-coil spacer if you felt it was necessary.

I set mine to the max-lift setting, and added 1-inch blocks in the rear. That gave me a level stance + 1 inch higher altitude. Fine, for what I wanted.

No, but I haven't had it off road either. I have factory UCAs.
