Default Wheel hub bearing problem

I am completely rebuilding the front of our '01 Tundra 4x4. I have the spindles loose and the axles out. My question is are the bearings pressed into the spindle? Is this something I need to take to a machine shop to have swapped out? Same thing with the carrier bearing on the rear. Is it a press fit or slip on?

I believe the front ones are gonna have to be pressed on by a shop, not to sure about the rear. Sure another member will chime in.

The front bearings are definitely pressed into the spindle. It took over 20 tons of pressure to remove my bearings. Sometimes the spindle breaks when attempting to press out the bearings, even if everything is done correctly. If you don't have the proper equipment you should definitely have it done by a professional. I don't know about the rear bearings.

Thanks for the info. Took them over to the local NAPA along with the front and rear shafts. Had to buy two more lower ball joints too. I mangled them pretty bad getting the spindle loose.

You should have just removed the 4 bolts holding the spindle to the lower control arms. You don't need to do anything with the lower ball joints.

I found that out the hard way. But the problem is is somehow whoever put the lower ball joints in the last time, rounded the shoulders off 6 of the 8 bolts for both sides. They had to be drilled out by the machine shop. As for the bearings, the right side had actually started to fail and pretty much seized up inside the knuckle. You guessed it, the knuckle is ruined. So now I have one coming from Ft Worth. The driver side came apart and went back together perfectly.

Those bearings can be really tough to press out. It's not suprising that one of the knuckles was ruined. When you put it back together remember to put some blue loctite on the four bolts for the lower control arms. You don't want those to come loose later on while you are driving.
